Sensation vs Sensation XE

I've read up on the differences, faster CPU, better battery, Beats audio but whats it like in real life, and if you had choice now which would you pick?

I'm in the market for a new Android (currently got an iPhone 4). Sensation is a top end phone I believe and a contender for me, but which would you go for?

The Sensation is available for about

1. Battery - XE battery will fit the original so not worth the price difference
2. Beats - not worth it unless you wanna join the Beliebers ;)
3. CPU - technically the same but HTC have done something to make it faster

The XE ROM is already available and I have run it but it still only runs at 1.2GHz so there must be something done low-level to OC it to 1.5GHz. But seeing as there are custom ROMs/kernels allowing you to run 1.5GHz+ it doesn't make a difference. Really depends if you want the red accents on the phone or not

Great insight thanks, not for that extra price difference really, so the battery will be able to be bought anyway, the larger one I mean (sorry forgot Androids have replaceable batteries!!), so I can just buy a larger capacity off ebay?

beats would be good, but although I use my phone for music, I'm not an audiophile so don't mind, as long as it plays my MP3s good enough.

I'm not really bothered about OC'ing it, so its the exact same CPU, just officially OC by HTC then? Is it really just a speed increase from 1.2 to 1.5GHz then? no other change, to cores, or extra things in CPU, more channels or whatever they call it?

Will the speed make much difference in real life? between 1.2 and 1.5 then? What I'm worried on is that HTC might have thought oh 1.2 is a little slow/cumbersome on Sensation, lets speed it up?

If the above isn't true then i'D be happy to pay

there's two more differences - not on the phone per se, but the accessories:

1. earplugs. the ones that come with the original are, in a word, useless (no exaggeration there); while the ones that come with the xe are alright
2. the xe comes with a 16 gig sd card, while the original comes with an 8 gig card

of course if you already have good earplugs and a big sd card (or want a 32 gig one anyway), neither of these points are of any consequence

Thanks, I have an 8Gb card already, 16Gb would be nice though

Earplugs, not too bothered, think they are worth about

If you decide on the Sensation, I'd spend less than the 125 "quid" on a "true" extended battery (from a reputable manufacturer) if that is one of your primary concerns:

[HLI-Z710EXL] Buy Mugen Power 3600mAh Extended Battery for HTC Sensation / T-Mobile Sensation 4G with Battery Door

Not sure if it will be a concern though, as long as it lasts a day then fine. I won't really know until get one and try I suppose, but with big screen can imagine it will go down quick?

All I was thinking was if the XE has a bigger battery then may as well get one for standard, can imagine off eBay they don't cost much

Once they're out I'll be buying the XE battery for my Sensation. Not fussed about anything else as I'm already running Android 2.3.5 with Sense 3.5 and CPU is running at 1.5GHz :D

Can I ask how then please? Remember I'm brand new to Android, always just had stock iOS etc. I prefer official softwares updates tbh.

Can you honestly see any differences between 1.2 and 1.5 in real use? I believe its the exact same CPU in both just that the XE is officially clicked by HTC to 1.5?

What's difference between sense 3.0 and 3.5?

Will you buy an official HTC XE battery or a compatible one from eBay for example?

Cheers

There are test builds leaked and I'm running a ROM I've made on this. Sense 3.5 is just a (large) improvement over 3.0 IMO. It's hard to describe it, you'd be better to try and have a go on a device running it (or even try it on your phone ;) )

There is a video of my ROM on YouTube, you can watch it here (not my video, I'm not French):

Sense 3.5 officiel pour HTC Sensation - YouTube

As for the CPU, you won't notice it in day to day use but for apps needing it it'll be a benefit

So any of the people who have ran the XE ROM on a Sensation is there any difference? I know it has sense 3.5 but can't are much difference, anything else?

On a side note of which actual phone to get, I keep changing mind, I haven't seen any in the flesh yet, but it's probably between the Sensation/XE, Sammy S2 or Xperia Arc S. I know this is the sensation forum, so can anyone big up the sensation over these?

Thanks for replies

The XE doesn't have the new Sense, it's identical to the stock ROM on the Sensation albeit with Beats wallpaper and the Beats profile when you plug in the headphones. Sense 3.5 is in the new leaked ROM with Android 2.3.5 (and it's for the original Sensation)

Personally, the SGS2 looks a lot bigger than the HTC, and feels cheap although VERY thin. Best thing is to go into a shop and take a look at them. Not a fan of SE's designs of late, very angular

I'm unsure if it is or not. I don't want to put different ROMs on etc. So the extra battery power, extra speed, 16Gb SD card (over 8Gb with std), maybe good.

But then again it's about

Well I seen a Sensation in the flesh for 1st time to compare with my iPhone 4. Size wise its not that much bigger, and was surprised at how slim it feels actually compared to my iPhone 4. I think thats because the iPhone 4 is a chunky, although thin, and flat, whereas Sensation seemed slim nice to hold.

I was in Orange (UK) shop and wife explained a decent deal actually, because I can get a 25% off discount on a 24month contract (wouldn't normally do this), Sensation was free 600mins, unlimited txts, 1Gb data, free WiFi using cloud service in UK, free 2 swappables (these a re e.g. free TV - still unsure if that comes out of your data allowance or not) for

i'd pay extra for the proper earplugs, bigger battery and bigger sd card

think if I defo get the Sensation, I'll also go for the XE, as you say, official 1.5GHz (although heard a ROM can be loaded on Standard Sensation but thats not for me), bigger battery, 16Gb SD card, headphones, better styling (in my opinion anyway) for the extra approx

right, I've just yesterday got my hands on an XE, its on Orange on their Panther 36 package - so the deal you listed above (in terms of usage) but
