Separate ring tones for SMS and Email

Is there an app that would let me have one sound for SMS and another for email? I don't want them to have the same sound.

You don't need an app. Go to messaging > click menu button > settings, scroll to notifications > select Ringtone,vibrate, etc.

Do the same within the Gmail app.

In general, from the system settings you set a global notifications ringtone, then from within each app (messaging, GMail, Facebook, etc) you can set individual ringtones or just let it use the global one.
