Root Serendipity 7 issues

I love this rom but I have a couple issues that are kind of annoying. When I make calls I can barely hear the person on the other end and also when I make calls my screen goes blank. Does anyone know any fixes for this?

Do you have the volume turned up? Try going to Voodoo Control and turn the headphone amplifier up. As for the screen going black it should only be on the first call after a reboot, I think it happens on all 2.3 roms.

if the screen keeps going black you can put your finger over the light sensor and then remove it and it will go away, it happened to me a few times but doesnt anymore

I have been having another issue for a while. Airplane mode just randomnly turns on any ideas on anything I can do to keep this from happening?

Id recommend flashing Serendipity again, I havent had any of these issues, try flashing without the USB plugged in as that can cause issues sometimes.

If that doesnt help, id even just start from scratch again, odin 1 click back to stock then reinstall serendipity.

When I turn my phone on, a weird screen with colored horizontal lines show up for a few seconds before the serendipity VII screen. Is that normal? If not, how can I fix it?
Thanks!

I'm pretty sure the lines aren't normal. Try a resetting the ram, and if that doesnt work....reflash?

I'm having a issue with my app list compiling. When I open the apps from the home screen, or exit an app and return to the app list, it takes 15-30 seconds for the list to open. Anyone know how to fix this? its rather annoying. All apps where its possible have been moved to the SD Card, and i've installed SD-Booster which didnt seem to help at all. Can I remove SD-Booster without causing problems?

Everytime I make a call, the screen turns off and I cant do anything... how do I make the screen come back on again?

Also, not sure if anybody else discovered this but when I rub the notification bar from left to right back and forth the screen brightness changes... is that an intentional built-in feature?

No, I haven't noticed the brightness change on the notification screen when I slide my finger around (I just tried for a minute straight, in case I somehow missed a way to do it).

However, both the facebook application and the Xbox 360 applications tell me that they can't log in and to come back later every time I try to use them. I have no such issues when I try that on the phone's browser. Now, it's not a serious issue since I can do this via the browser, but I just thought I would bring it up.

Overall, I really enjoy Serendipity VII and I look forward to future updates and kernels.

btw...I'm not sure what you call it, but everyone that sees the television screen turn-off effect for when I turn off the screen loves it. Great job on that one. :D

this same thing happened to me.

i started the direction from #13 because i had the older version if serendipity. all i did to fix the issue was to start from #1 and follow the directions exactly how they are stated.

Installation:

1. Download this package.
2. Open Odin3 1.7.
3. Select the PDA, PHONE, CSC, and PIT files in their correct spots.
4. Connect phone in download mode. Use a USB port that's on your motherboard (the ones on the back of the computer). Use the Samsung USB cable.
5. Ensure that Auto-reboot and Re-Partition are both checked. These have a tendency to change after plugging the phone in, so double check them.
6. This is where the bootloader will be flashed, along with stock Gingerbread. Hit Start.
7. Allow the phone to boot.
8. Close Odin3, and open a fresh one. Select Reorient_Kernel_1.1 in the PDA box.
9. Reboot into download mode (adb reboot download, or hold Vol Down + Power).
10. Plug the phone into the computer.
11. MAKE SURE RE-PARTITION IS NOT CHECKED. If it is, you'll soft-brick and have to start over.
12. Flash the kernel (hit start). Allow the phone to reboot.

~IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY ON A SAMSUNG-BASED GINGERBREAD ROM WITH BOOTLOADERS (NOT CM or MIUI), START HERE~

13. Place the ROM .zip (You know, the one you downloaded from the giant link up there) onto the SD Card.
14. Reboot into Recovery (adb reboot recovery, or Vol Up + Power).
15. Flash ROM with CWM.
16. Enjoy!

what my problem was is that i used titanium backup to backup and restore my phone. when i restored everything i guess the old phone setting dont work with the new phone setting so when i restored everything the 2nd time i just restored my app WITHOUT DATA. then i went through and installed a few things like wifi setting, and contacts with data.

phone is working great now.

does anyone know of tethering works without having the tethering service from the provider?

Flashed to Serendipity VII.

Shows Swype is installed but will not output. Swype will trace but on word completion, it beeps and that's it.

Tried installing over it with the Swype installer off the swype website but no luck.

Any thoughts?

You need to totally uninstall Swype before using the installer from the website. Swype had echoed and it isn't going to get fixed unfortunately.

Flashed S7 a few days ago. Was on Fusion VII, which uses Voodoo lagfix. I disabled lagfix before flashing S7. I now see in the Voodoo Control app that the "lagfix status" is "lagfix RFS only - Compatibility mode, no Ext4 conversion." I have an option in the app to "allow lagfix code to convert partitions." Any reason why I shouldn't do this to allow the lagfix to fully function? Thanks.

Edit: Went ahead. No problems. Just for curiosity, ran Quadrant. The change increased the score from 994 to 1582. We'll see how it does in the real world.

I hate to re-hash an old topic... new guy to rooting and flashing here and I'm debating going for Serendipity 7 as my first non-stock experience. It seems to come highly recommended and I liked the Youtube videos I saw of it. Just a few quick questions for anyone who has used S7:

1. Were there any problems above that never got resolved?

2. Has S7 been updated to something higher?

3. If you've switched away from Serendipity completely, what ROM did you find better?
