Root Seriously Bricked Droid 3?

295566

Lurker
Hey guys, sorry for the cliche first post, but believe me I have been searching and reading all night and day for a problem similar to mine.

I was running CM9 on my Droid 3 and was having trouble because my phone kept running in safe mode, which was causing some of my apps to not work, and when I turned safe mode off, it ran the stock droid OS, which I didn't want. Therefore, I manually turned my safestrap off (first mistake) so now I can't get into it. Alternatively, my volume down button doesn't seem to be working so I can't select AP Fastboot to flash my phone back to factory settings and eliminate all my woes. When I try to power my phone on manually, all it does is load me into the BP Flash screen, which to my understanding doesn't work (why did they put it in?). I've tried to press the down direction key and power to shortcut into AP Fastboot, as well as power button volume down, neither of which work. I can get into the screen with Normal boot, recovery, etc but cannot select anything, and it just goes to normal boot and proceeds to bootloop. Is there anything I can do in this predicament? Any help is much appreciated. :)

Don't know if you stumbled onto this thread but I would suggested attempting it. Will force reinstall the 5.6.890 OTA update over your ROM. Scan down through the thread. Files and instructions are there. I keep copies on my hard drive..... just in case ;-}
Good Luck

If I understood the OP correctly, his volume buttons don't work, so he can't select AP Fastboot, which is needed to FXZ/SBF, making this a strange case and I doubt that thread will contain much as it is just a general overview of what root does to this phone.

I missed the step in the directions about the AP FASTBOOT and volume buttons but if there is any way to get to it at all.... M+power.... and another way to scroll... there are directions and files in that thread. I just zeroed in on forcing it over with the computer and thought that would help. Sorry.

Quoting "Ultimate Droid 3 Root/Rom Thread"

"Unbricking/SBFing the DROID3 (Or returning to stock without a Nandroid)
So, you did something you weren't supposed to do, and now you're left with a brick (or you forgot to make a Nandroid, and want to go back to stock).
Download this One Click SBF rar file by psouza4 from XDA, and this SBF file.
This SBF will completely wipe your device and install software version 5.6.890 on your phone.
To use:
Step 1) Make sure you have the most recent Moto drivers installed.
Step 2) Extract the zip to a folder on your computer.
Step 3) Extract all of the SBF contents into the "files" folder in the folder you unzipped.
Step 4) Power down your phone.
Step 5) While holding the Vol + and Vol - buttons, power on your phone.
Step 6) Select "AP Fastboot"
Step 7) Once your phone says it is connect, double click "CLICK HERE - Flash Verizon DROID 3 OTA 5.6.890 to phone.bat"
Step 6) Wait for your phone to reboot, then are back on the Stock OTA 5.6.890 update."

This may seem like a stupid question, but have you tried pressing any and all keys once booted with M + Power just to see if there's another way to navigate through the menu? I can't foresee it working, but at this point, I doubt it'll hurt. Lastly, I'm wondering if you would be able to flash a 5.6.890 file though ctock recovery. Can you scroll though stock recovery?

My D3 is stuck on the Droid Logo and the Drrroooooiiid sound over and over so I tried this method to fix.

I trid these steps and after I do Step 7 this is what it says:

are u sure you did that?? thats what the error sounds like, its saying the files are not there

I agree. Maybe it was a bad DL or unzip? Anyways, here's a working quick unbrick script. I just have it mirrored on my Dropbox. Click the link, it'll download, then just unzip it to your desktop. Don't move any thing, just unzip it all at once as one big folder.

Walk-through of sorts.

Hey Guys,

I'm trying to hard reset my phone and hoping you can help.

I've tried the standard methods using the phone and going into the privacy setting on the OS and selecting "Factory Data Reset", and while it says it's erasing files, it only takes about 30 seconds, reboots and then nothing is reset.

I then tried option #2 which was X+Power select "wipe data/factory reset" and then select "yes--- delete all user data". Booted right back up with nothing changed or reset.

That brought me to the androidforums and here is where I stand.

I've downloaded the files for "Unbricking/SBFing the DROID3 (Or returning to stock without a Nandroid)" from the "[ROOT] Ultimate DROID3 Root/ROM Thread" without problem.

I'm currently at

Step 6) Select "AP Fastboot"

The issue I'm having is when I get into HBoot menu, I can scroll, but I can't select anything. I've tried the power button and nothing. I've tried the "ok" and "enter arrow" on the keyboard and nothing. It just boots up like everything is cool.

What other options do I have to try wipe my phone completely clean and start with factory settings?

Thank you for any and all help/support you can give!

Aaron

Were you on 5.6.890 or 5.7.906 (the most recent OTA)? This makes a difference. You need to press M+Power, use volume down to highlight AP Fastboot, select it with volume up, then connect to the computer with the stock USB cable. The screen should say something about being connected by USB. Then start the batch file to SBF/FXZ.

Thank you for your reply. i'm on 5.6.890.XT862. it appears that M+Power and volume down to scroll and volume up to select did the trick!

I ran through the batch file and it said it erased user data and cache and claimed to load everything back on properly. When I start up I get to the screen with the exclamation point and the little green droid dude. what am i supposed to do from there?

If/when I boot from there, everything boots up fine, but nothing is erased. If I delete cache and do a data wipe/factory reset and then reboot, everything boots up normal and i'm back to the same virus infected (assumed) phone that i'm trying to delete.

So, you're saying that the SBF batch file didn't wipe data? Why don't you head into the market and get AVG and try cleaning up with that since you suspect it's a virus.

Good call, I tried before and it kept force closing on me. I just tried again and downloaded the Free version.

Free version didn't find anything suspicious except a text message. cleared that out and i'm showing green check marks on

Apps
Settings
Content
Media

I'm going to try to wipe again (3rd time), but I don't understand how this is possible.

Every time I restart my phone it deletes everything back until May 26th.

It seems like whatever I do it won't wipe it completely clean.

Now, I haven't tested this yet, as I have no need for it, but it's a 5.6.890 SBF with the necessary updated 5.7.906 files that allow bootloader etc. flashing, but with the 890 system. It's RSD Lite flashable, but you'll need to unzip with 7zip first.

906 SBF.7z - Minus

This is from me over on XDA, I didn't feel like re-typing it.
