Seriously? Why is their no Google Talk notifier?

Does not make any sense to me. Can anyone explain? By notifier I mean the little circle that pops up and shows that you have new messages, or maybe even counts them. I am talking about on the screen, not in the notification bar. It's there for Gmail, and SMS but not Google Talk.

The Google Talk app hasn't seen any development/updates in quite some time. I seem to recall reading recently on google's help forums that a new release is coming sometime relatively soon.

With any luck, that feature will be added with their next iteration.

My Gmail icon never shows if I've gotten new messages or how many messages I've gotten like my other mailboxes do. I get notifications in the notification bar, but that's all. I checked the settings, and that seems to be the only option to receive notifications. Am I missing something?

Update: I went to the marketplace and found a free "gmail unread count" widget which seems to add that functionality.

GMail and SMS are different animals. Do any of the IM clients have this feature?? I have tried trillian, meebo, and Yahoo messenger as well and dont think any have it.
