Root set cpu

in the stickies above, it mentions when youve flashed your rom, 3 apps to get, 'set cpu' being one of them.

well, i flashed CM7, didnt get on with it and went back to restore original phone settings. does that mean ill still be able to use it if i buy it? is it the fact ive rooted that means i can potentially save my battery, or is it specifically for custom roms?

and just as an aside, if i buy this, how do i pay? does it go onto my vodafone bill, or is it a separate payment i have to make somewhere?

thanks

It requires root. It doesn't require a custom ROM.

You can buy it from the market just like any other paid app.

Should add that there are other custom ROMs out there, so if e.g. the reason you didn't get on with CM is because you like Sense there are ROMs with that too. Or other things if you prefer.

One thing: sorry if you know this, but better safe. If you have returned to rooted stock, should there ever be another over the air software update, do not accept it. Go into the menu and turn off update checking. You are still rooted, and the OTA updates are not designed to cope with that.

Then take a nandroid after this change. Test you can restore it then delete your original. You'd be surprised how many people forget about otas

ooh I did know about that actually but hadn't turned it off. I have now :-) I assume its just the tick box in the software updates?
and yes, ill try another Rom I think, probably a sense. I've had leedroid recommended so will try that. and ill take a nandroid before.
just one other thing about backups. I've installed mybackup and backed up contacts and photos etc, and also some apps. if I flash another Rom, will my apps still be in same state as before, with data that I've entered? lists, rota, fitness info etc?
if that's the case ill be more likely to keep trying different roms than if I had to keep starting from scratch.
thanks a lot for your help :-)

I personally find that titanium is better for applications and data (yes if you use titanium it restores data too). But for sms, mybackup is good. I also backup user dictionhary and a few other things with mybackup.

ah right. so am I correct in thinking I haven't actually backed up an app with all the data in then, just the app? so if I want to keep trying roms, and the apps on the SD card to contain all my data, I need titanium? does that also back up my contacts? in not too bothered about messages, i never keep those anyway.
thanks

If your contacts are phone contacts (not google contacts) i suggest mybackup for that. But google contacts just sync when you sign in.

Agreed. My back up is useful for the little bits of data that arent easy to locate / restore without messing things up. I dont really use it much any more. Custom dictionary only now. sms backup+ backs up all my sms to gmail anyway and its free
