Why the hell does my phone keep having the set current time notification pop up in the task bar.

it sometimes happens up to 5-10 times a day.. is this because i connect/reconnect to mobile network all the time?

anybody else have this problem. ??

Can't you get it to set the time based on the internet and where you are?

Mine is doing this too, only since the update. It even comes up with the correct time zone, but you have to select "Done" for it to clear. Pretty annoying.

Try turning off automatic updating for the time and setting it yourself. If it isn't syncing with your networks provided values, it shouldn't be affected when you lose signal?

Hi all,

I am having the same problem.. when the phone can't see the mobile network it can't update the time and so asks to set the time zone all the bloody time... what difference does this make to the update time settings is beyond me..

If I set the phone to not update, it looses approx 5min/week and so any conversations etc, that rely on time stamping get out of whack..

I need the phone to update the time, as its internal clock is crap.. (why I don't know..), but only to do it when it can see the network..

If any one has a work around until Mr Android can amend it self it would be appreciated..

If your handset is rooted there is a third party app on the market called clock sync.

yeah in the process of rooting now. just waiting for conformation from more knowledgeable people than me to say i can root gingerbread......

if you are not connected to the mobile network then your phone will not be able to update time settings people.

it is also beyond me why standard htc clock cannot hold
accurate time

I ran into this issue too when I switched to a new handset but wanted to keep using my old one as a Wi-Fi device. I leave it on Airplane Mode with Wi-Fi turned on, but I get the notification that it can not update the current time because it relies on the internal clock of a cell tower to update it.

I wonder why Google can not just have it so that it updates based on an atomic clock via the Internet when connected to Wi-Fi only? Anyway, I use an app called Clock Sync that fixes the issue if you are not using a mobile data connection on your device.

Just to say that this problem isn't affecting me, so maybe there's another application that's upsetting the phone?

I am running v2.3.3 and always switch off both wi-fi and the mobile network when I'm not using them but have never been asked to set the time in the way described above. I don't know whether it makes any difference, but I'm on Orange in the U.K. and the only other time settings I can select are: Use 24-hour format is ticked, and my date format is Sat, 31 Dec 2011.
