Root SetCPU app and it's effectiveness?

Hey there, I just a few days ago rooted and flashed the Syndicate Frozen rom and am not getting such good battery life...

I was wondering how big of a difference SetCpu makes on battery life/performance in general? With moderate/heavy use (internet browsing, facebook, email, txt messaging) how much should it improve battery life? am getting around 10hours at the moment with moderately light use... Is there any free alternative app that runs comparatively well?

I guess what I'm really asking is: is it worth it to buy setcpu, and will it make a dramatic difference on my battery life? This Rom is supposed to improve battery life, and I think I read is overclocked to 1.2... Will setcpu let me set this underclocked to 1,0 and then like 800 with screen off, 600 idle? Am new to the android thing [have had my EPIC only around 2 weeks today]

Thanks for any help!

You will def notice a difference in your battery life.

While you're using your phone you can set it to on demand so it underclocks it while you're doing non heavy cpu activities and auto clocks it back to normal as needed.

While your phones screen is off is where you'll notice the largest difference, I have mine set to 800/200 so it underclocks to 0.2ghz while the screen is off (i think it works that way) and clocks it to 800 if it needs more power to turn the screen back on. Correct me if i'm wrong.

Overall i'd def say its a worthy purchase, I don't see why you wouldn't have it if you're rooted.

Agree 100%. I too have mine set to "On Demand" and I've noticed a drastic increase in battery life. I'm running the same ROM (standard version) and I'm able to make it through work over 50% where as before, I would usually have less than 20% left, if I didn't have to charge it to keep it going.

Plus you can set different profiles, i.e. if battery is charging then 1200, if battery is less tan 25% then 800, etc.. i have mine set down to 100 when idle but i am also running a different kernal than the acs one. So ya it does make a difference. If you really wanted you can find it for free on xda or pay the $2 and help support the dev. ;-)

Totally agree...

I haven't played around with SetCPU, but on my Droid, I was using Droid Overclock. Does SetCPU have one for CPU temp, to help protect the processor?

The free version is available in the XDA thread started by the developer. If he's offering it for free then I'll oblige him by accepting his offer. ;)
