setCPU dummy

i have successfully managed to flash KI8 2.3.5
and siyahs 1.8 kernel

i was told to download setCPU, ive spent 3 hours reading up on it and its all going over my head, can someone explain it in an easier fashion or point me towards a simple guide

Thanks Guys!

I'll try.... :)

Main Tab
This allows you to set the default max and min clock freqs (with the sliders). The "Scaling" drop-down gives you a choice of different governors, each of which alters the way the CPU "scales" up and down depending on load. "Set on boot" is self-explanatory.

Profiles Tab
This lets you set up max/min profiles that kick in under specific conditions and over-ride the default settings. For example, I run 500/200MHz when "screen off" to conserve power.

Voltages Tab
Allows adjustment of CPU voltage to aid overclocking stabilty (or reduce power draw at stock)

Advanced Tab
There be dragons.... only enabled with certain governors, and not something to mess around with unless you know what you're doing and why.

Info Tab
Various pages of diagnostic information. "Time in state" is especially useful as a tool to analyse how your typical usage affects the CPU.

Important!
Do not make any permanent changes to CPU freq/volts (by enabling "set on boot") without checking for stability over a reasonable period of time. Getting this wrong can render your handset unable to boot fully, although you can now flash a special ZIP via recovery to reset to defaults if required.

As long as "set on boot" has not been checked, will anything set CPU does with regards to changing voltages/speeds etc ONLY be active on your device if you actually go into the program after each boot and select a profile? ie. Will the device behave as stock intended?

I've created a profile and enabled it, but I've not ticked the set on boot option at all.
If i reboot the handset and go back into setCPU, the profile is already enabled. I was expecting to have to go and re-tick this after a reboot.
Does this mean this profile is currently active then?
If so, what is the difference with ticking the "set on boot" option?

How strange!

Normally the kernel goes to default, I believe, if "Set on Boot" isn't selected.

This has been my, "Get out of Jail" card in case any settings went base over apex.

Obviously getting up early doesn't agree with me!

Thats what i was thinking.
Not sure what to do with this then. I would like to have thought it all goes back to stock after rebooting, but for me, apparently not!

I'm having a strange old day. This on top of me not being able to install Market 3.2.0! :(

:D good point butty!

After numerous reboots, the profile I created in setCPU is always ticked, so I assume this profile is enabled and active on boot even tho "set on boot" definitely is not ticked!

Any suggustions?

OT I know, but just to rub salt into my wounded day, I've tried about 10 times, even using different root explorer software, and I cannot get Market 3.2.0 to install.

You think you're having one of those days... I can't even put a blasted screenshot up to torment you with... JAM, PLASTER and BUTTER it!

I'm walking away from it before I do something I regret.

Oh what a glorious day I am having new boot logo Premium Upgrade and new uber cool Avatar:D

Want some salt :p

Market 3.2.0 set up as in xda instructions but it reverted :(

Profiles are always active if "Enable" is checked on Profiles tab. "Set on boot" only applies to those tabs it appears on i.e. Main and Voltages.

p.s. Moving this to ATR now as SetCPU requires root.
