Root setCPU etc..

Where are we on using setcpu and widgets to use less of the processor when the screen is off to save battery life? Can that be done at this point or what?
 
the phone already idles at 245. what more can we really do? my phone already has great battery life when sitting idle. i'm talking like a 1% an hour drop on average when idle.
 
I have root and setcpu but I'm not really sure how to use it yet - any pointers or good tutorials out there?
 
You need to install an overclock kernel before you can turn up the speed. Set CPU is worthless without root(which you have) and an overlock kernel(which you dont). As far as I know, there are no overclock kernels out yet for the incredible.
 
Also, you DO NOT want to turn down the minimum speed of your phone lower than 250mhz. If you do, then when your phone is in sleep mode, it will take longer to wakeup when a phone call comes and will delay you being able to answer it to the point where you may miss it. This happens on the Droids. My Droid is set to 250/1000.
 
Anyone able to use SetCPU to set the max clock speed of their CPU under 1ghz? I wanted to lock my phone at like 600mhz so the battery lives longer, but it doesn't seem to work yet. I guess we need the custom kernel not just to overclock but to underclock too?
