Root SetCPU problem: no way to slide CPU speed higher than 528 MHz

Help. My Droid Eris, which has XtraSense, is constantly asking me to adjust the ringer volume, along with the accompanying buzzing sound. The other thing that started happening is that the phone will suddently turn itself on with it's off, and also I'll get a DOS-like screen giving me some options like quick boot. But the trackball won't work when this screen is up. What the heck is going on?

Do you remember if you have a Nandroid backup of xtrSENSE that you can go back to? If you, shut the phone off and start while holding VolUp, then go to the Backup/Restore menu to restore. If you do not, you may need to reflash xtrSENSE from that same Recovery. I'd try it with a Wipe menu, Dalvik wipe first; if it still does not work, do a Wipe menu / Wipe data/factory reset.

Hi. Need help again.

I flashed a Gingerbread ROM on to my Droid Eris. Everything works, except I lost all the HTC widgets, so I no long have that cool digital clock and animated weather display.

Also, when I use the touch pad to dial a number on the phone, the touch pad lost the ability to show the name of the person I'm trying to dial. Not sure if I'm explaining this clearly.

Do you know how to fix this? Thanks!

Those are built into Sense, which you no longer have. Search the market for apps to replace them. Beautiful Widgets is good for the clock. I use mydialer lite for the t-9 dialer.

OK. Thanks. Still getting used to Gingerbread. It seems fast. Some of the visuals are more interesting than earlier versions of Android, but it's still pretty plain compared to iPhone and especially Windows Phone 7. Angry Birds can play but it's really slow. Do you know of other ways that Gingerbread is an improvement over 2.1 or 2.2?

Well, for the Eris 2.3 ROMs are faster and more stable than 2.2. More apps are available for 2.3. I also like some of the cyanogen tweaks. Which Gingerbread ROM are you using?

Cynogen...does that mean it wasn't produced by a specific open source group, or something? I'm new to this.

Cyanogen is a group of developers who use the android open source code to make ROMs with slight tweaks. The benefit is more people working together on fixing things. Check out the Condemed cm7 thread to read about a good cyanogen ROM.

Off the top of my head, some of the 2.3 improvements over 2.1:

- you can move apps to the SD card individually. This was added with 2.2, actually. Just don't move any apps that have homescreen widgets.

- the keyboard placement and cut/copy/paste controls are much, much better in 2.3. Of course the Eris has the trackball, so cursor placement has been ok in 1.5 and 2.1, but selecting text in all apps is now much, much better

- the Gmail app is much improved. You can get priority inbox, separate notifications for multiple gmail labels, and even get notified with each new message rather than with the first message that hits your inbox (or that label, actually.) You can have separate notification ringtones for regular inbox, priority inbox, or even a label in gmail.

- the browser is much faster and better.

- the memory use is more efficient

- 2.2 and 2.3 add Google Voice actions, so you can use vocal commands to do a lot, including text entry in any field, quick voice dialing, etc.

Those are the highlights for me, anyway.

After using the OMGB desirec 1.1.2 version of Gingerbread, it seems to be really draining the battery and all kinds of apps get turned on. After I zapp them with the Advance Task Killer, they seem to come back on after a few minutes.

Do you thing it's b/c of this ROM, or something else. I like it in every other way. Any recommendations for a Gingerbread ROM for the Eris?

The fact that they come back on drains your battery faster. You're far better off letting Android manage the apps; after they are in the background, they will be suspended and use far less of your battery than stopping them and having them restart, going into active use again.

Which apps are they?

I far prefer CondemnedSoul's CM7 and GSB over the AOSP ROMs. I tried OMGB when it first came out and wasn't thrilled with it.

[ROM] 8/04/11 Condemned CM7 V17 (2.3.5) - xda-developers
[ROM][7/27] GSB v3.8 | CyanogenMod7.1.0 RC1 [2.3.5 GingerBread NIGHTLY] - xda-developers

(Note that CondemnedSoul's CM7 does not require a Google apps flash after you flash the ROM - the Google apps are incorporated.)

The apps that always seem to be on:

Beautiful Widgets
Email
Market
Maps
Gallery
Voice search
Yahoo news
Google search
Pure grid calendar widget
Google voice
Pandora

Hi again. I tried installing adobe flash on my phone and it's not in the droid market. Does it work on your phone?

Flash doesn't work on the Eris.

For condemned cm7, download the vanilla version with the highest version number.

Hi. Flashed Android 2.3.5 GSBv3.9-CyanogenMod-7.1.0-RC1. The browser works and so does messaging, but you can't make a phone call and connect with your contacts. Do you know how to fix this?

The reason I flashed a new ROM is that the phone was going dead all the time...the battery would be fully charged one minute and the next it would go dead. I'm just trying to make my Eris last two more weeks till the Galaxy Nexus Prime comes out.
