Help Setting a password or pin lock

Is there any way to set up a password or pin lock on the phone for the screen without having extremely stupid, 10 attempts resets your phone BS? I've always had passwords on my phones in the past to keep younger relatives and friends from being able to look at my texts, pictures, ect. but i don't want to put a password on my phone if it makes it so all someone has to do is enter a random password 10 times to reset the phone. So does anyone know of a way to turn off that feature or maybe an app to add a password or pin to the lock screen?

From what I have been reading, this is entirely built into the HTC Sense skin and bypasses the normal methods of being able to unlock your phone with your Google Password. I believe it can be disabled with root, but I do not know that for sure.

As for stock (non-root), no, there is not a way that I know of to disable the 10 attempts.
