Help Setting photos as your home screen

I really enjoy the phone but the one thing I have trouble with is setting photos as the homescreen. I have some photos I've taken with the phone that I like. I'll pick up and set as the home screen, then the little box pops up for you to crop the picture to what you want to see on the homescreen. I make it to where it looks right to me, but once I set it and go to the home screen it appears very "blown up" and part of the photo is not viewable. I'm not sure why it's doing this - I'm pretty sure there is a simple fix. Any ideas??

It's just the way Android handles wallpaper unfortunately, I've similar problems on all my devices.

Have you tried using something like Nova Launcher? The resizing options on that are much better than the standard OS options. You can specifically set portrait and landscape views and what you see on screen when doing it is a better representation of what your homescreen will look like.

I loaded Image 2 Wallpaper app where the app automatically formats the picture to fit the screen. I tried it on a few different ones with great results. Even with having multiple home screens, the image fits just right.
