Help Setting wallpaper without cropping...how do I do it?

Is there a way to do it? I took a picture in portrait that fits the Droid X screen size perfectly and I want to use that as my wallpaper.

I have scrollable wallpaper off and don't use the landscape mode for the home screen. I have that turned off as well. So really it makes no sense and its highly annoying.

I made a video to show what I was talking about because its kind of hard to explain...or some people just don't get it. Whatever if you don't understand let me know and I'll post the link up to youtube after its done uploading.

EDIT: Here is the video. I'm guessing when they designed this they wanted the wallpaper to stretch across all your screens or something...ghey.

Yeah, I ran into this issue last night after I made a plethora of wallpapers. Personally, I love the idea of being able to use a massive wallpaper.

Maybe you need to make a 854x960 image, center the image you wanted, keep the other area black or white, or whatever. Then, set the whole thing as your background, and LP should keep the 854x480 image you centered as the only wallpaper?

I found a program that lets me choose a picture without cropping it...thing is it takes my portrait picture and rotates it 90 degrees CCW.

This is the same thing that happens when you try to upload a portrait taken pic on Facebook.

Any ideas?

figured it out. the crop can be resize. when u click the edge of the box try expanding it. u can get the entire picture

Nope as I show in the video it only let's you crop a square thats the width of the screen. Won't let you go any farther vertically.

Did you try this?

The only way to change my wallpaper without going through the "crop" issue is by using Flicki. It actually comes with some really nice ones too.

It also happens when you send a MMS.

Yep exactly. What's funny is that my old Droid has this same problem. Any picture taken portrait gets rotated when sending an MMS uploading to Facebook and a couple other things.

Come on Motorola get it together! :p

totally agree - mind boggling that they would put out a 16:9 phone and force a 4:3 aspect ratio for your wallpaper...

I can't even believe it. utterly and completely non-hetro.

hoping this will be fixed upon 2.2 update. but not holding my breath.

@damstr - you never mention what the name of the program is!!

cheers,
b

I totally agree also. We have all these home screens and no way to customize them with wallpapers..............and wallpapers that FIT !!!!!

If someone made an app to cure this, they would get rich :)

Try "Multipicture Live Wallpaper" ...........

Not only allows each screen to have it's own individual wallpaper, it also does an awesome job of resizing them...............and guess what?

It is FREE...............lol

Hi. i found and image viewer that can set wallpapers as-is. meaning you zoom to the picture (or not) and then set it as "use current screen". So what you see in viewer is on your wallpaper and they are not in stupid 3:4 they are proper 1 screen size and ratio because of that picture don't move. It's called Perfect Viewer.
