Several issues with my Huawei Y300

Hi, I've had this phone for almost 12 months now and it's generally been pretty good (for a first smart phone!) but I've got a few problems now which I can't find answers to:

1) Nothing will write to my SD card anymore - it's got plenty of space but the photos wont go there; I can't 'move' apps to there etc.....

2) A few people have replied to texts I've sent, their phones say I've 'received it' but I haven't! I've tried a test from my hubby's phone and 2 out of the 4 I sent did not come through?

3) I am no longer getting flashing notification of missed calls/messages etc even though it is set to do so.

4) What's App images will not download - says it was unable to complete, please try again later......it never does work!

5) Everything is very slooooooooooooow - to open or close an app/phone book etc. takes several seconds - more than it used to.

Sorry there are so many questions but, if anyone can help I'll be most grateful, thanks.

Start the phone in safe mode (long-press the power button, then long-press the power off option.) This will turn the phone on without any of the apps you've added.

If the phone works better, you could be trying to stuff too much into the phone. It only has 4GB of total storage and 512MB of RAM - it's not a very large phone. Stuffing the storage full can cause the kind of problems you're describing.

(To get back to normal mode, just power off normally, then turn the phone back on.)

(The best way of diagnosing this is to back everything up, then do a factory reset, but putting everything back the way you want it after you've diagnosed the problem could take hours, maybe even more than a day, so it's an extreme measure.)

I am a newbie in Android. My knowledge is mainly on Windows.
I bought my Huawei Ascend Y300 about 3 months ago ( also my first ever android smart phone ), and I just got the hang of how the android phone works.

I might be able to answer part of your questions

Q#1........
Do you mean "photos" as in photos taken by the smartphone?
If yes, they are stored in sdcard1, under DCMI. If you click open DCMI, you should see a folder named Camera.
I was told that apps cannot be stored or moved to sdcard1. Apps are to be stored in sdcard0, your internal storage.
I was also told that sdcard1 is only for personal files such as pictures, music, documents etc.

Q3............
Mine does not have "flashing" missed-calls notification. Only a red circle with a number over the phone icon. I don't see any settings to do so. I just checked my settings before I post this reply.

Q#4........
While the internal storage is 4GB, only 2.61 GB are available for use. It get used up quickly.
Perhaps you should check how much space is still available in your internal storage. You might not have enough to download an app.

i think your phone needs a reset...
or you should uninstal some apps if u installed like:
battery saver
launchers
cleanmaster

I bought one of these just to use in Europe. Short of Rooting it, there are a couple of things you can do to save memory.
First, under storage, set the SD card as the default storage. It will move a lot of stuff over to the SD card. It really does a nice job of cleaning out the internal memory, but that still doesn't leave a lot extra. Some things supposedly won't work, but I haven't had a single issue.

Second, you can delete some junk, like the HW themes that you aren't using, extra ringtones, and many image files that accumulate in folders such as facebook, download,etc. Many small preview files that add up.

Finally, use the built in task killer, and restart occassionally. This phone just can't handle FB, Maps, Camera, and a bunch of other stuff all running at the same time.
Regarding your other issues, it sounds like a Factory reset will be a good choice. It won't take as long as systematically trying to troubleshoot it. After 12 months, you probably have stuff on their you aren't using anyway. A clean slate approach never hurts.

I appreciate you all taking the time to try and help with my problems. I've been sent a new SIM card which I very much doubt will do anything sensible to fix things but I'll give it a go!

I also bought a new SD card - more expensive than the current one - and this seems to have solved more problems! Guess it shows you get what you pay for!

I still am not getting any alerts to tell me I've received a text so that's the next thing to sort out, I am, however, getting a flashing indication of a missed call which was missing for a while.

I'll keep trying
