Help Several Questions

I found a copy of z4root on the internet and it installed ok. Not sure what version but copyright 210. But temporary root didn't work. Cycled all the way through but root checker said no root. I'd like to try permanent root but scared it will brick my phone.

Why not do the root guide for root???
 
That's too confusing. I found a batter solution. I downloaded My Backup Pro for 5 dollars. Wouldn't download at first. But I cleared cache and data for the market and now it works. Then re bought it. Was refunded the first time. Just checked my email. After buying it it still got stuck on downloading it. After I shut the phone down and re powered it on it worked. Then I backed up everything to the sd card. It All data, contacts, and apps, etc.

Then did a factory reset from settings, privacy. Then reloaded everything and now have 73mb free now instead of the 15 I used to have and everything is running smoother now. Not sure why factory reset would make things batter or free space. Maybe cuz the backup only included programs and not the dead leftover files from the uninstalled stuff. Oh, well all is good now.

As for the install Apps2sd downloaded to the sd card. And some others as well. And some didn't. So I guess it is deciding where best to install instead of straight to the phone.
 
didn't realize ran out of memory had 1mb left. phone was giving errors quitting and stuff. So I rebooted but it doesn't boot. keeps rebooting. avail zte990. is there any way to reformat the phone without booting like recovery mode or something. pressing volume down and home key when booting says "ftm" but is stuck on ftm and does nothing. or should I just take back to RadioShack and get another avail. 27th so I'm within my 30 days. thanks.

You can go into recovery mod by holding menu, volume up or down i forget, and power the device on. Then you could do a factory reset and everything will be deleted and your phone should be good.
 
Thanks totally works. Volume down and middle button is ftm. But everything else no works. But didn't think about volume up and left button. Get a menu now. Will try tonight and see. Thanks.
 
I just tried it and am able to boot now. What a life saver. Thanks. BTW, in recovery mode one of the options was apply update.zip. What update are they refering to??
