Help SEVERE battery drain

I had a issue similar to this and the problem ended up being that i had gone over 5gb of data and I was being throttled, thus all my apps were constantly trying to refresh (access the internet) and since the connection was utterly slow (2g) the phone idled using a data connection all the time and caused my battery to drain in less than 6 hrs constantly.

Try to reset your phone and disable some apps that may access the data connection frequently.

actually, ive been using wake lock detector the last few days, though it says 93% was deep sleep, i found that facebook awoke the OS 369 times in the course of 7 hours, and also i found that Timely awoke the OS 538 times in 7 hours. ...

I'm curious please, what does "awoke the OS" mean? If the system is able to monitor such timestamped events as the "wake lock detector", "facebook" and "Timely", isn't the OS already "awake" to be able to do so? Or are you simply meaning the display?

The OS logs the wake event when it happens - which means it must be now awake, otherwise there would have been no event to log :-)

If that's still unclear, consider this: could you record the time your alarm clock woke you from sleep if asked to do so? That's all the OS is doing.

I believe that the gray bars, when superscripted by an "E" etc. indicate only a lack of "Google server" connection ... data is still enabled, as indicated by web browsing, other email capabilities, etc.

The E you refer to hear is just the network connection the phone is on.

G = GPRS
E = Edge
3 = 3G
H = HSPA

Those connection types are listed in their order of speed, with GPRS being the slowest

This issue has me tearing my hair out... 8 hours!?!? Gahhh! Absolutely no wake locks either...

Have you tried better battery stats? I had the same problem on my phone and it was gps causing the problem, but a lot of other people are reporting Google Play Services and Location Services being the issues. Constantly waking the phone over and over again. Good luck with this, man. Hope you figure this out...

Edit: another thing, Google pushes certain updates to your phone without prompting you, that would explain why it was normal for a while after a factory reset and then reverted back to the suck.

I have running better battery stats the last week, nothing really came up, nothing obvious at least. A large chunk is in deep sleep. I did notice msm host on the top of the kernel wake locks, but only for a total of 5 min 32 sec, don't think that is the problem.

From the pic, your WiFi signal is pretty poor, is that the norm/has it changed recently? Poor signal can have a pretty big impact on battery life.

As SwoRNLeaDejZ points out, location services can be a big hitter too, have you tried turning that off?

Yea that signal is normal whenever I'm in the garage. 95% of the time its near the router. And yes all location services are off in the phone settings and Google settings

I did an experiment last night. I charged the phone to about 100%, took the Sim card out with no wifi and just left it unplugged on idle all night. Woke up this morning and the phone was dead... Idk what the wakelocks were, but if no data is being sent/ downloaded, then maybe the battery is going bad?

Maybe its worth trying the same experiment, but with the phone in airplane mode? Although its similar to what you tried above, maybe the phone was still trying to communicate. If its in airplane mode, then I assume it wont try any communication?

I did try that last week, after reading how someone fixed this issue with setting it in airplane mode over night, low and behold didn't work, and my phone still continued to drain.

In my non expert opinion I'd say it's your battery then. Have you made a service call to Google?

No not yet, I don't think I will however, due to my phone having a unlocked bootloader and the micro USB port is broken, only charging will work. But there's already a thread for that issue.

... however, due to my phone having a unlocked bootloader and the micro USB port is broken, ...

It's easy to lock the bootloader ... the broken USB port may be involved in the battery drain if electrical connections are compromised or shorted?

Good thinking. It sounds like a distinct possibility to me now that you have pointed it out.

Got the part this morning, installed it without a hitch. Charges just fine, in fact better, but.... Didn't fix my PC connection issue!? O.o I'm very confuzzled about this... No word on battery life, I'm going to leave it idle for the day and see where that leads...

Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall the drivers for your phone on your computer? Or have you tried unrooting?
