Help Severe lag on 4.4

Hi,

I received KitKat 4.4 yesterday evening. Excited as I was to install it (which seemed to take forever), I now find that my N7 (2012) is lagging. A lot.

Certainly a lot more than it was on 4.3 just before the upgrade.

Is anyone else experiencing lag issues like this on KK? If so, did a factory reset help at all?

I suspect some of the apps I have aren't helping matters (I'm looking at you MobileIron, Touchdown and PureCalendar, all of which I had to install to get access to my work Exchange account now that IT have tried to make things more secure), but it was nowhere near as bad when I was on JB4.3.

I don't really want the faff of downloading and setting up all my apps and homescreens again, but I will if I end up getting my tablet back to a useable state.

Cheers,

Rhyan

Yes unfortunately I would say a factory reset is in order. Sometimes things just get a little scrambled behind the scenes when you update. It can be a good idea to do one with every update whether it's obviously acting funny or not.

I flashed the update through WUGS toolkit. It ran like ass for the first day, but then smoothed out indefinitely. Very smooth GUI now, maybe an occasional hiccup.

I think it has to rebuild a lot of cache after an upgrade, that might also be what you're experiencing as it seems to have been my issue.

Managed to find some time to do a factory reset this evening. It's like I've got a brand new N7! It's lightening quick (well, compared to what it was earlier today).

At the moment I don't know if it's due to the factory reset alone, or whether not installing Mobile Iron, Touchdown and PureCalendar at this stage helps. Will install those last three apps when everything settles down.

I just installed it and it's running like molasses. I'm going to let it do its thing overnight. There's an Android process constantly running and using 40% of the CPU and there's some other stuff going on in the background too. If it doesn't resolve after a day, then I'll reset it.

Like I mentioned above, mine ran pretty poorly for the first day. I sideloaded the GEL the first day, too, and thought that's what was messing me up. Uninstalled it and it started running better soon after, but in reality it probably just finished doing its thing.

I know my 'Droids always ran like mule with CyanogenMod after wiping caches as well.

I found a simple simulated battery pull (soft reset) straightened it out for me.

Still running poorly. I'm going to reboot it to see if that helps. I would like to avoid a reset to factory as that takes quite a while to go through completely too but it's probably the next step.

iOS updates are a breeze compared to this.

It's still running like crap but now Battery shows that Screen is using up 44% of the CPU and Email is using up 13%. Really strange stuff. So it looks like Factory Reset it is. Do I then have to wait for KitKat to download again?

Just started the reset and hoping for the best.

It's in the process of restoring everything from backup but the stuff I checked is running fast again. I'll leave it in the dock for a few hours and hopefully everything will be back to normal later on. I hope that it restores my home screen too. I can see my Apps coming back and it came back with KitKat installed.

I did a factory reset with mine after getting Kitkat for the same reason.
Seems to be running like new again.
Hopefully it will last.
