Help SGS2 Bluetooth Car Kit Connection Problems

First of all, I'm a NOOB, so pardon me if any of this is old news. I searched the 'net a lot but couldn't find a problem quite like mine.

A little background on my problem. I recently updated from ICS (4.0.4) to JB (4.1.2), the official version via Samsung Kies. For the first couple of days I was beset with multiple bugs, the most annoying of which was sporadic lock-ups after connecting my Jabra Bluetooth headset. I bit the bullet and performed a factory reset, which has cleared up most of the bugs. My Galaxy, however, is not playing nice with my car DVD/Bluetooth stereo. When I first pair the two, the setup works just fine, but after they're disconnected, there's no way to get them to reconnect except by unpairing the car kit on the phone, cycling the Bluetooth off and back on, scanning for new devices, and re-pairing the two. (All of these steps are required to make it work again.) I've tried a factory reset on the radio with no effect. Also, none of my other Bluetooth devices have this problem. Needless to say, this makes using Bluetooth in the car a bit inconvenient for short trips. The two connected without a problem every time before the upgrade.

From what I've been able to find on the 'net, lots of people are having connection problems with Bluetooth on JB. Should I just be happy that I've found a workaround, or is there a way to fix this?

Interesting, I don't have a Bluetooth stereo to connect to, but I have not had any problems using my Bluetooth with any of my other devices. I have been on JB for a long time.

I have herd others having issues with upgrading via Kies, and I didn't use Kies to install mine.

I am rooted and have removed things like phone info out of the device administrator list.

In your phone's Bluetooth listings for the stereo, what do you have checked. Also what happens if you just cycle the Bluetooth off then on for your phone?

When the phone is connected, the "Use for phone audio" and "Use for media audio" boxes are both checked. I can uncheck and re-check the media audio check box as long as the phone audio remains connected, but if I uncheck the phone audio check box, the media audio drops off after 10-15 seconds. If I cycle the phone Bluetooth off and on with the car kit paired, I still cannot connect. If I unpair the two and try to re-pair without cycling the Bluetooth, they won't pair.

Do you have anything else Bluetooth on at the same time? It is possible to go back to ICS if that was working for you, BTW.

I've had some similar problems connecting to my stereo with both stock, Project X, and Slim Bean. But all I've done is go into settings>bluetooth> then I just select my stereo(not the configure button) and it connects(since it's already paired). That doesn't work? I know it is a stupid question, but it has to be asked. Mine will automatically reconnect to my stereo if certain conditions are met, I'm not %100 sure if I turn the phone bluetooth on after the stereo is on, or before. Is this a factory stereo or after market?

I wish I had a Bluetooth enabled stereo in my vehicle just to try it. I have absolutely no issues with it running rooted stock JB with any of the devices I do have.

To answer Codegerm, nothing else connected, although the car kit will kick off the headset even when it won't connect itself.

To answer Gendo420, as I stated above, after the first connection after pairing is broken, the two will not reconnect even though they remain paired unless I unpair, cycle Bluetooth, scan and re-pair. The car stereo is a Chinese after-market unit, but as I said, it worked fine with ICS.

Speaking of ICS, any recommendations for a stable version to revert to should I decide to do so?

If you stay on a non rooted device what ever version of the stock ROM you get you will get an OTA update to the latest ICS released (more than one update if you go earlier than FI22). The latest ICS that was released was FL24.
