SGSII v Prevail - WOW Surprising results

I was so sick of the phantom key presses mentioned in one of my earlier posts and the gps issue also mentioned I finally sent my phone back into Samsung. In the meantime Im using my old Prevail.

Wow the battery life is sooo much better on the Prevail (smaller screen and single core sips less juice.) That was to be expected, even with my extended battery on the SGSII, but....

the disturbing part is the reception is sooo much better on the Prevail. Im not just talking reception sticks on the screen. I mean less dropped calls, quicker connections, better wifi reception, etc.

I'm kinda torn now....

I highly recommend FK23, I have gotten MUCH better battery life and TW JB is Kitty Tits. I am betting you will change your perceptions ...

thanks Kev. I will def load that one up as soon as I get the SGSII back...

can you hook us up with a link?

Prevail is an awsome phone, best phone I've owned aaside from the s2 phone, but what kills that phone for me is the internal memory, 169MB I mean comon! you KNOW people are going to d/l apps and you only supply 168mb? eh??

Ok so you say I can put an sdcard, what's the problem? just move them to the sdcard, right? well that's true, except for the fact that doesn't do a BIT of good. What are you talking about? (scratches head)

Firstly:
You have 168 MB of internal memory, so apps don't eat a lot of space, this is true, but, when you are a widget freak like me, well that presents a major issue. You see when you do widgets, you can't move the app to the sdcard, because if you do the widget no longer works, WOOPS!!

Secondly:
Not all, and you'd be VERY shocked at how MANY you "cannot" move to the sdcard, I was quite shocked at the amount that could not be moved.

So this presents and issue for people like me that use those, not to mention you can have about a max of 75 apps total in all on your internal memory, that's if you plan right and move what apps you possibly can to the sdcard. I got up to about 75 or so, and that was pretty much the limit.

So while the phone is a really nice phone, it has a major downfall for me and was the deal breaker when I found out.

As for the FK23 I would agree, it's really nice, and is pretty much an s3 in an s2 casing :) (aside from the hardware)....all the features are there though.

There is also a really nice rom based off the FK23 rom/modem/kernel called UniverseJB aka Jellyverse http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2025466.

They are really working like crazy on updating this rom too. Look forward to this weekend, they are adding things like extended power IE: reboot menu will have more on it, they also are adding extended toggles into the rom. It has toggles already, like 17 I think, but they are adding in the ability to pick and chose what toggles you want, similar to the CM10 roms have, only in TW style/form.

They already have those done as far as I have read, and thier just waiting to put more tweaks and adjustment in the rom to release it so people aren't downloading every day or eveery couple of days......I'm actually on CM10 right now, but I am going back to that rom as soon as they release the toggle adjustment....GOTTA HAVE MY TOGGLES!!!!

So look for a new rom this weekend some time is what they have said.

The solution for the prevail low internal memory was to change ROM. I used HoneyBread 6. With a ROM like that you can map your data to a ext4 partition on the sdcard with the net result of having a huge internal memory (I had 2gig)

ah yeah, I forgot about that....lol, funny how when you stop messing with things you tend to forget tips and tricks of the trade :).

I still have my prevail and I tried every rom for it there was.I'm sorry to say but man I don't see the prevail being better than the s2.As far as battery life most people always have a bunch of things running even when they don't need them.I never had a problem with batter life on s2 with the stock tw rom.My s2 has have better call quality and signal than my prevail, imo after getting the s2 I would never get a small phone again!I also love the fact of the amount of different games the s2 can play e.g. shadowgun, the prevail can't run this game....sorry bro the prevail sucks after useing a higher quality phone....I recently rooted to fk23,torn out and added all the inverted apps, blows the prevail out the water.

Actually, multiple cores will use less electricity than a single core, provided that they add up to the same total MHz. The wattage required is related to the square of the CPU speed per core, IIRC. Of course, that only applies if you want to underclock your SGS2.

Yeah the prevail does have better battery life, but I am not having bad battery life on my SGS2 (especially with the whole new toy mode I am still in with it) I easily run all day on it. The signal strength is about the same on both for me. Although the prevail with a custom ROM is a great phone, the SGS2 wins out from display, memory and processing ability.
