Shell/holster drop test?

I have the commuter case for my bionic and can't decide if I want to modify it or buy the shell holster combo so I can use my extended battery. Has anyone with this case dropped their phone while it's in the case? Does it give the phone any protection?

Your review for how the case protects the phone would be appreciated!

my phone dropped for the first time today and all that broke was the kickstand. i had the phone hooked up to a jambox, sitting on a tall bookcase. when my back was turned, the bass of the jambox vibrated it off the shelf and it took my phone with it. a quick trip to verizon for a new shell and it's all as good as new. on the way to the carpet, I believe the phone first hit a vacuum cleaner. otherwise I doubt the shell would have sustained damage.

The shell case will handle drops most of the time. But if you take it or put it in more hazardous areas/ locations regularly, I'd look for a much more protective one.

I was pulling my phone out of the holster from my pocket and dropped it onto cement from about 4 feet. (I'm 6'2). You would think the case provides little to no protection but I was amazed. The phone hit hard enough to knock the entire shell off and the battery/back. To this day I can't find a single mark on the phone OR the case. To be honest I think I just got lucky because seeing my phone in 4 pieces on the ground was terrifying.

I think that this is going to be a subject answer at best - it would depend upon the surface it's being dropped onto, the angle it makes impact, and (most importantly) if ht surface is flat or corrugated in any way.

For example, if the phone lands touch screen down, and there is a rock right there that it lands on, it could easily shatter the touch screen. However, if the phone lands with the touch screen facing up, then it could potentially fall from as high as 6 feet and exhibit no detrimental effects.

The best thing about this shell holster combo (other than the kickstand which I'm addicted to) is the fact that it easily comes off so I can replace my discharged extended battery with a freshly charged one. But, at the same time, it seems to offer less of a rise from the touch screen as the shell holster combo for my DROID (which was a PITA to take off on a brand new one, until you had used (meaning removed and applied repeatedly) it for a few weeks.

But the kickstand is irreplaceable to me.
