)Root access is not illegal and it is totally up to you if you want it.Thanks for the info.
I suppose one is not allowed to have root access on these phones...)
Is SSH available?

lek,
Welcome to AndroidForums!
+1 to the other guy's answers... Using the Android SDK's adb shell is very nice from your PC.
I also highly recommend the open-source "Android Terminal Emulator" by Jack Palevich (free in the Market).
One thing you will be disappointed in if you are not rooted is the lack of the various Linux/Unix tools that you are used to. There is a root-only app called busybox that provides functionality to a ton of your familiar Unix shell commands/utilities (grep, find, etc.). Not having the busybox app installed will make navigating and doing things you are used to extremely unwieldy or impossible.
Also, you might want to check out and app call Gscript or Gscript Lite. It allows you to write shell scripts and run them from an Android app. There's a thread over on XDA that you can read-up more about this (GScript * Easily launch/save shell scripts from within Android UI * - xda-developers).
Cheers!

Hey, thanks a lot you guys!
I will download the "Android Terminal Emulator" by Jack Palevich and the busybox app.
I bought the 'MissingSync' app to sync with my mac, and works well generally except if I try to sync my music from iTunes. Then my mac crashes [Snow Leopard], which is a bit of a drag.
I am hoping to use my Epic, rather like my Zaurus SL6000.![]()
Thanks again,
lek
I see the "Busybox" out there, but do you recomend one over the others?
.lek,
Sorry, I may have confused you a little. The busybox program can only work and be installed when you are rooted. It usually comes or gets installed with whatever method you use to root.
Your phone's main all-things-root sub-forum should be able to provide you with more details and specifics about your particular rooting method that I can.
Cheers!
