Help Shift won't charge and no display?!

zealser

Lurker
So I updated my phone last night, Spent the night playing with it Then I wanted to root it.
So I did 2-3 hours of research about it and posted asking questions. I went to start rooting and after about 10 attempts with the "shiftRR" giving me errors saying "unable to something adp" I can't remember at this point but after a while it stopped connecting to the computer. So I thought I messed something up so I reset it to factory defaults thinking after that I could root it. Now the display isn't working... It comes on and the home and menu buttons light up I can hear the noises and it vibrates to my touch, GAH If it makes a difference the screen has had a "wobble" effect for a week or 2.

Sorry for double posting But I really have to ask this...
I didn't get handset protection on my monthly plan.... Can I get the phone replaced anyways because It DIED!

You probably should have done a little more research, because the update isn't rootable. I have no idea what it may have done to your phone when you attempted to root it, but sounds like it is quite messed. Have you tried a battery pull? sometimes they will reboot if you pull the battery and try to power up. If not, it sounds like you own a brick. Rooting voids all warranties on the phone. I know you weren't successful, but it is still void. you can try to take it back and see what they do for you , but they don't have to give you anything.

You can try to run the ruu. As a last ditch effort.... here is the link for the xda wiki to dl the ruu HTC Speedy - XDA-Developers

Good luck.

I don't see how it would have bricked.
the shiftrr never interacted with my phone at all.
I know at one point i rebooted my phone and it when straight to the home screen without evening loading then loaded apps and stuff.
is that a brick?!
Also I can't use the RUU because It won't connect to the computer or the wall....

If you can't do anything with it, it is a brick. I don't know what you can do if it doesn't charge or connect... Have you tried to use a battery from a friend's shift (or hero ;))

I know you think it didn't interact with the phone, but it stopped working while you attempted to root an unrootable version of the software. (You said so above^)

Sorry I can't help more....

I guess I'm royally ****ed, I don't know anyone else with a android phone but my brother and he has a evo 4g. CRAP

Not 100% positive, but the EVO battery may be the same as well. Relax, man. You can totally try and take it back. I am sure you aren't the first, nor will you be the last. May I recommend that when you get this straightened out, you buy the insurance?

Ya... I really should have did that in the first place. I guess I'll go in and just play innocent and just say it started messing up after the update and rebooting, Would that be the best idea? I'm gonna cry =(

I've read in various forums that Sprint can be somewhat forgiving with rooting. As was said, though, they don't have to be. Insurance is a good thing. My wife dumped her shift in a glass of Coke. It's taken 3 replacements, the last being a new shift. That $100 was alot better than eating $500 for a new one. Ya never know.....

Alright so this is what happened. I took it in to get it to be replaced.
they said they can just fix it for 35$ and I said yes no questions asked.
I came back 2-3 hours later and they said they couldn't get it to work.
He then called someone to mail me a new one. I asked if I could keep the old one for the battery he said yes.
After getting home it was having the same issues and i realized that the screen works!
It's just really dim I guess the backlight died or something. I did use a case maybe the motherboard over heated or the trying to root it once made the motherboard screwed up.
In any case thats all I have to say Will they let me keep the old phone? I really want the battery/backup phone ;P
So maybe I can take it somewhere for a new motherboard and give the phone away/sell it ;P
