Help Should Google be sued for not providing security updates..?

Seriously..... Should Google be sued for not providing security updates..?

I couldn't quite believe it when I first heard about it..... but Google Android doesn't even provide security updates....

There are major issues with WebKit, the browser engine

All it would take is some hacker crafting a malicious web page, at an out-of-date version of Android... and just like that, they have your text messages, can listen to your mic in the background, can keylog your bank details....

And somehow, Google thinks that Android is going to be used for mobile payments....??

It's actually hard to believe....

I mean, every Microsoft Windows PC in the world (minus XP and below) gets security updates... Why not Android?

Wow

The way I see it, you buy a device as is, firmware and all. Not sure how the legalitys stand though but when seat belts became compulsory, did every car get recalled to have them fitted? (seriously I don't know)

You're misinformed amigo.

WebKit isn't right, that's old - Android uses WebView and that's individually updated via the Play Store from Lollipop onwards.

Second, not everything uses WebView.

Chrome and Firefox use their own independent rendering engines, not WebView, and update security independently of the Android version you're running. And those aren't the only ones.

Finally, the comparison to Microsoft would be perfect except for one thing - did you get a Nexus, whose operating system is pure Google and updated by them?

Or did you buy a variation of Android from another manufacturer that controls your security updates and now you want Google to do their job?

Windows (version number) is one thing, from one manufacturer - Microsoft.

Android (version number) is a family of things from numerous manufacturers.

The idea that oem Android is just pure Android + "a skin" is simply a myth. Expecting Google to update TouchWiz is like expecting Apple to update Windows.

You're quoting a story that was old news when it came out last year, promptly discredited, republished on a slow news day this year with even more hype and discredited again.

Read past the hype and the headlines - the original security report that's been twisted beyond recognition didn't single out Android and didn't say what it's been misquoted as saying.
