Should i even buy a spare battery?

depends on what your goal and expectations are.

I got a solar charger (similar to your linked item) with built in pack.

If you want something that can be used for multiple devices, this is probably the way to go.

a spare battery is the smallest and easiest to lug around...

How often do you run low?

I have a car charger and a usb plugged into my computer at work, I very rarely need something extra.

Yep depends on your situation though. I'm not home much and can't charge at work. So mine lasts me from 9-9 usually 12 hours or less. If I'm going out then its nice that I have my extra battery fully charged at my house.

Or if I'm just on a heavy usage day

+1

You can buy the $25 extended battery from vzw or get the standard battery with dual charger for $29. I personally like the idea of being able to charge two batteries at once and carry one in your pocket. Its convenient when you run low.

The more i think about it i suppose i'm worried about nothing. Also i guess what i could consider is that the battery won't always be on sale, but that charger will likely always be 39.99 on Amazon, so i probably will grab the spare batt first.

I am thinking about the galaxy tab though.. so maybe i'll get it later when that happens. Thanks for the suggestions everyone. :)

I have some Tasker tweaks that are helping me with battery life so I can last the whole day, but on my last Android phone, I'd have buggy days where the drain would just be terrible, so I bought an extra battery for the Galaxy Nexus (about US$20).

So my plan is to just use one battery while I carry around the other battery fully or mostly charged as a backup. Then on the weekend, swap them out and use the other battery and carry the first one around as a backup. And so on and so forth.

if u have mutiple devices to charge daily, i'd recommend that external battery.
pros/cons on using external battery is u dont need to remove case, backcover to replace battery each time and it doesnt reboots phone but u need time/place to recharge battery (it takes about 2hr from 0 to 100%)
so if u work on office so u can leave ur device with battery on desk or something, it works but if u r on constant moving/outdoor, i'd get extra battery.
