Help Should I fromat my sd card before I stick it in the S4

I'm going to use my 32 g card from my S3 on the S4. Is it safe to simply transfer the card over or should I format it?

It's probably safe to drop it in but you'll likely be bringing a mess of old, possibly useless stuff with it.

I'd recommend backing up the card to your computer so you don't permanently lose anything important, then formatting the card. This way when you drop it in to your pristine S4, it's not cluttered with files from apps you deleted a year ago. With a backup you can always put things back which are important.

Shouldn't be an issue but you'll probably have some legacy stuff from your old phone. I had some stuff from my G1 on my S2 when I made a similar switch. It didn't seem to affect the S2's function so I just left it on there.

No need to format anything. Pop it in and in case you see old stuff, delete it. Most apps do not store anything on it anyway.

^ What he said. I've never formatted a card. Just took it from one phone & stuck it in the other.

Same here - I just drop in into my new phone and delete what I don't want. In the case of hidden folders (which I don't really have anymore except for something like LOST.DIR since I don't transfer apps to SD anymore), maybe I would drop those into my computer to delete since my phones aren't rooted to do it on the phone. But I still won't format it on my computer. If I want to format it, I would format it on the new phone itself.

Seeing as we are no longer allowed to install Apps to External SD the only files you probably have are media and doc files.
The file system has not changed so a format should not be required.

As such all I do is remove the card and delete any material not required for the new phone.
Job done....
