Should I get a PS3 or a bluray player

PS3 can do so much for the price its crazy

blu ray movies / games
netflix
pandora
youtube
web browser
DTS-MA/Dolby True HD
3D capability soon.

the only thing its lacking are analog outs, but if thats not a big issue, of course the HDMI out is perfect

Only thing I will say is that I never recommend using your gaming console as your main DVD/Blu-Ray player...I just don't see the point of putting the extra wear on the drive. There are plenty of good Blu-Ray players that are comparable and the majority of people aren't going to notice the slight difference in video/audio quality (especially the audio quality).

I guess I'm lucky. I have a first gen PS3 that has been used REGULARLY as a DVD/Blu-ray player for years. It's still going strong. Good cooling is key.

Just sayin but.. just because it's free doesn't make it better!

no, dosent make it better per se, just added features. besides. i dont know about you... but bill gates has gotten plenty of my money without sticking his nose in my video games.

also... ps3 dosent get the RROD :D wayyyyyyyy less hardware failure than the 360

I have a PS3 for my blu-ray player. You can use programs like "ps3 media server" to stream videos or movies to your PS3 from a computer in the home and if you have a newer SONY TV, you can use your TV remote control to also control your PS3.

People who are using the media server. What program are you using cause windows media center does not seem to like what i am doing

Wifi bluray player wouldn't be bad at all if you are running on a 'N' network.

Yeah, if only the PS3 was 802.11n compatible.

Then again, even if it was you'd have to be sure every wireless device connected in that network was n compatible or else the lower rated device would drag the rest of the network down with it.

As for the choice of BR player, PS3 by a long long way. It's not just an awesome Blu-Ray player but it does a great job of upscaling your DVD's and is just an awesome media hub in general whether you're playing movies from a USB drive or streaming over your network using PS3 Media Server.

Hands down grab the PS3, just make sure you grab the Slim model.

Get a slim if you can. They are quieter, more efficient, and run cooler... a lot cooler. My first gen is like a jet turbine & personal space heater in my game room. The slim can also bitstream DTS-MA & Dolby True HD, if your receiver can handle it, which is nice.

RRoD is old news, friend. I've witnessed plenty of PS3's get the 'yellow light' including my own (and mine is not even a year old yet). It goes both ways. It's not like it won't get fixed under warranty so what's the big deal? Bill Gates is a smart man that knows how to make money from Windows OS and MS Office then the Xbox. You knock him b/c of how he makes money but if it were you, you'd be sipping caviar on a yacht somewhere in the Mediterranean.

EDIT: Friends don't let friends become fanboys :)

ive never had an issue with any sony hardware ive owned (inclusingmy launch ps2 and 3) and i have had many issues (be it mostly software) with mocrosoft. there are 2 sides to every coin. i guess ill take heads on this one and you can have tails.

It's def hit or miss with any gaming system. My launch day ps2 is still going strong but my first ps3 stopped reading discs within a week. My new ps3 (old model still) has been going strong however without a hitch.

That's just you though. You nor I speak for the populace. It's not about taking sides. It's just about calling a spade, a spade. Both companies have their own positives and negatives to the respective gaming consoles.

+1 Completely agree.
