Should I get a wildfire s?

Hi everyone.

I have always had Nokia phones, my last was the N95. Never had a phone that wasnt Nokia, lately though it seems like my phone is so out of date, slow etc so I have been looking for a change.

I dont have a lot of spare money, so my budget is limited, for my budget I could afford a wildfire s, I had a look at one today and am supposed to be picking it up on friday.

I know its an old ish phone now but after seeing it I believe I would be happy with it for the money I will be spending.

A few questions:

I have seen reviews online and most people say that the memory is rubbish and because of that they are always getting the message that the memory is full when they try to install apps, they have to delete stuff before they can install something else even with a memory card. Is this true? is it as bad as people are making out?

Thanks.

Hey central perk,

Unfortunately it is true. Memory is very limited because most of it is used by the ROM (OS) itself. So you will only be able to install a couple of apps, unless you are willing to root your phone.

I guess it depends what you wish to do with your phone. The Wildfire S is a small compact phone with a fairly small screen (on today's android standards) and as a stock phone it is very limited due to the 600mhz processor & only 512M ram. I thought it would be fine for me but after a few weeks I realized it was too underpowered & low memory was a huge problem. I decided to Root mine & install a custom rom with overclocking and software that allows part of the SD card to be used as extra memory. Now I am extremely happy with my Wildfire S as it can now do what I need it to do & is small enough to live in my jeans pocket easily.
I guess if you don't want to have to root etc then I would probably look at an alternative droid with a little more horsepower & mem. Perhaps HTC Desire S as an example.

You could look at the desire C which is superseding the WFS. Price seems to compare well.

Don't buy it please.
It has very limited memory which will be filled before you know it.
I had to uninstall apps to be able to install other ones.
Even after rooting it still bothers to move all apps and dalvik cache to sd-ext. It slows it down.
And I have this problem after upgrading to CM9 (the one made by the Chinese developers team BIT), When I open a number of apps, each time I try to open an app it force closes. To open it I have to clear memory.

I am not trying to be disrespectful but complaining about its problems with a buggy port of an unreleased operating system doesn't give a true report of any phone. CM9 is ICS based and these phones will never run ICS well, even HTC admit that. I really like my phone now and it can now do everything I need it to do but I did have to root it to get to this.

It's a nice little phone providing you respect it's limitations. Mine is rooted and I have a very small number of apps a couple for the camera, Avast security and Winamp, apart from orange's irrelevant bloatware. Battery life is much improved with a 2500MaH battery (I get 4-5 days with occasional use).

I second the value of the phone with a 2500mah battery. Picked one of the "Schubert" batteries on ebay rated at 2500 (a little skeptical on real rating), but this this is a champ-- for only 4 bucks shipped!

Of course, the memory is quite an issue in this phone. At first, when I was looking for a phone, I didn't mind it all, but now I understand what people had in mind. Despite that, it actually fulfills my daily needs, although it tends to get a little slow at times, but to be honest, it rarely bothers me. Bottom line, if you're not a power user, this is the phone to get - small, yet powerful in its price range. For a few added bucks you might pick up something better, but that's another topic.
