Should i get an iphone 5S

Call it curiosity but I want to find out what all the fuss is about.

I have always been an android user and ive NEVER owned or even played with an iphone. I am currently extremely happy with my s4 and am rooted and running Cyanogen mod 10.1.3 Stable. I love customising my phone and for all these reasons the s4 is suited to my needs ......... but I can't help feeling i'm missing out on something by never having owned an iphone. I thought I would ask other android users and more specifically other s4 users if they have owned an iphone before and what was their reasons for changing. If given the chance would they change back??

I switched to Android because I don't like a locked down system. Every iPhone is the same - you can't customize anything. If you're "extremely happy" with what you have, why change?

I have always preferred Android
However, until I got my S4, I had an iPhone 4S for 3 years, as a works phone.

and I have to say, I do not miss iOS in the slightest!

It is so locked down and is really only for people that don't like to customize or tinker.

Having said that, I still own an iPad (which I got because I already had the apps paid for on iPhone)
BUT, I am also looking to switch that for an Android tablet, as these are also overtaking iOS in terms of screen quality etc...

You already answered your own question. iPhones have their share of the market for good reason, they have their good points, but customizing is not one of them.
.
I had an iPhone for almost two years, but went back to android as soon as I could. Call blocker app and the ability to save documents to memory on fly were my main reasons.

A year or so ago I tried the, then, current version of the iPad. It was gorgeous, the screen was clearly the best around (my opinion), it 'just worked', it was simple enough to use - I returned it after two weeks, I hated that thing. I couldn't do ANYTHING to customize it, even after jailbreaking it. I like a nice neat home screen, but IOS insists that all apps must be displayed your home screen. Yes you can move them around and put them off on 'side' screens, but they are still there. Give me a simple home screen and alphabetized 'all apps' screen any day.
And don't even think about installing something new unless you're cabled to your computer and have iTunes up and running.
Nope not for me. I don't question that Apple makes great products, but the limitations they put on 'tweaking' their devices just drives me nuts, especially after years on the Android platform.

What fuss? If you're talking about the tech press, I would ignore it. Most of them don't know their ass from a hole in the ground.

Look at the reviews of the S4. How many were accurate? I only remember one that said it was a good phone but that the gimmick software sucked (as opposed to there being a lot of feature you may never learn about), which means only one review was accurate.

And don't even get me started on my reviews of my Samsung TV, Microsoft Word, coverage of Win8, etc.

If you're happy with what you have I'd stick with it, and not even consider another Android device--yet.

Don't let yourself get caught up in the media hype over the iPhones. The media is Apples biggest form of free advertizing. The media makes Apples announcements seem like the next greatest tech invention.

Thinking about this further, if my next phone were not an Android, it would more likely be a Windows phone. I'm much more curious about that than iPhone. Currently though the apps are just not there (I have a specific one I need).

I have an iPhone 5 for work and I don't like it. It is much better than the BlackBerry it replaced but I much prefer my S4.

The only positive aspect of owning an iPhone is that it integrates very well with my MacBook and syncing and backing up are easy and work. In the case of Android a complete backup is almost impossible and syncing requires using a horrible ragbag of ugly software that doesn't even work properly. Android desktop integration is a joke.

My daughter struggled with getting rid of her Thunderbolt (she had one of the ones that worked properly.) She, all of a sudden, had to have an iPhone 5 (not 5S, they weren't available yet.) Turns out that her friends at school had convinced her that the iPhone was the way to go. I told her that she had two weeks to decide if she liked it and after that she was sure she "loved" it. Now all she can do is complain about the iPhone. "I can't do this," "I can't do that" and I just say "I told you so." I have messed with it and find it sort of "childish." I personally don't like the OS deciding how I want to do things. It is a nice phone and great piece of equipment, but very limited in variety. My son has had an iPod Touch for a couple of years and this last upgrade was his turn to get a smartphone. I was sure he would want an iPhone because of the Touch, but he surprised all of us and asked if he could have my old Bionic and save the upgrade in case someone's phone crapped out. He loves the Bionic and says that he wouldn't want an iPhone. Anyway, the iPhone has its place, but not for folks that like to "spruce up" the look of their phone from time to time.

I would ask the question in a iPhone forum somewhere to get the counter-points to these arguments. I'm sure there are good points / benefits that will be brought up from fans of iPhones that you won't see here in an Android forum. The iPhone is a great phone. I prefer Android, but lot of people out there do not ...

Same here. I had iPhones from the original, to 3G, 3GS, 4 and 4S and being a geek meant I kept defending them when talking to my colleagues as they didn't get how I can love iPhones given my desire of tinker.

Either way, I played with an S3 and next thing you know I bought one outright.

Now I am on the S4 and my company gives me a company phone next month and I was able to chose which one, anyone.

What did I select? A Nokia Lumia. I doubt I will EVER go back to iOS ....

Switched from the Iphone 5s to the SG4 a couple of weeks ago because I hated iOS7. Havent looked back since. The only challenge I had was the physical footprint but have since gotten used to it and would never go back to the iPhone.

I had an iPhone for 4 years, and became bored and tired of it, as it is too basic for my liking, and it is pretty much 'same old same new' . My first iPhone was the 3G, and my last being the 4s. When the iPhone 5 was released, I was not impressed, nor was I impressed with the 5s. Therefore, I discarded my 4s and upgraded to an S4.

I am loving what I can do with an Android phone, and I do not regret not getting another iPhone. I love the fact that I can multitask efficiently, not worry about updates crashing, can customise my phone, take crystal clear pictures, synch wirelessly, and have the benefits of a quad core processor on my s4.

I also decided to get an S4 as nearly everything technological I have is Samsung, and have had no problems with them. I own three Samsung TVs and a Samsung R780. I feel that I will continue using Android providing that it continues to be innovative and extraordinary.

I switched from a 64gb iPhone 5s (had it for just a few days) to a S4.

I switched to Android as it was a far cheaper handset than iPhone out of pocket as the primary reason. I figured I could just drop in a MicroSD card and get a spare battery.

If I had the chance to correct my decision, I would find the cash and go back to a iPhone 5s in a heartbeat.

That is interesting and does prove the point made by Don S above. I have an iPhone 5 (not an s but there doesn't seem to be much to choose between them) as well as my S4. I don't really like the iPhone at all so, while it does its stuff perfectly well (it's my work phone) I don't enjoy using it. The iPhone is a huge improvement on the Blackberry that it replaced but there is no way I would choose an iPhone over my S4.

Both phones are very good phones but it's entirely down to what you want to do with your phone and how you use it as to which will suit you best.

I guess the number one complaint I have is with the slo motion video. Dropping the size to 800x450 just looks bad on the screen.
