Should i get the Eris?

Signing a contract for an Eris at this point would be a terrible idea. The phone overall is very nice but it's outdated, slow, and at points in time will drive you nuts.

If you want an Android phone on Verizon i would recommend either the Incredible or the Droid X. You could get the original Droid for cheap as well (although the Droid 2 is coming out soon) or go with the LG Ally if you want something a bit smaller.

You're going to get a lot of people that tell you no on this Forum... because it's a Forum. Generally speaking, people come here looking for help with problems.

I have a (relatively speaking) trouble free Eris. I have OTA 2.1, and also got the most recent update OTA (over the air). Still, there are times the phone drives me nuts... it can be really slow and laggy. Personally, I find this happening the most around the dialer when I'm making or rec'g calls. So my answer to your question would be 'No'. There are better phones out there right now. There are people at my office with the Incredible and the DroidX. The performance is night and day between those two and Eris, I have personally played with them all and bench tested them against each other. And it's primarily because the Eris is under powered. Most would agree with that statement.

Ask yourself this... if you were looking at a new laptop on the Dell website, and there was a Pentium II for sale, would you buy it? If the answer is yes, then the Eris is probably okay for you.

Good luck.

The Eris isn't that shitty. It's more or less a Core Duo in this day and age of the Quad Cores and the "is."

You gotta realize what you will use it for. If its basic phone stuff plus navigation and very basic browsing, the Eris is great. That's why we got it for my gf... that's all she'll use it for.

But then you have me... i go in forums, play games, and use the android platform to it's fullest. So a oc droid is what I need. Or something like evo, x, incredible...

So it all depends in what you'll be needing it for. An incredible is a waste I'd all you'll so with it is text and talk on the phone

Shitty is a strong word... and I agree, Eris is not a shitty phone. And I never said it was one. You've always been a big fan of the Eris, Smacky ;) I'm always glad to see you come to its rescue on the Forum here.

My wife has an Eris, I have an Incredible. We paid $49.99 for the Eris and even though it is EOL, she likes it a lot.

If you want an affordable droid, I think Eris is a nice choice.

If you have some time, you may want to wait a few weeks and see if they have another update for Eris (which I was told is coming, but I dont believe it).
