Should I get the Hero?

So I'm just awaiting my PUK code from O2 so I can get my HTC Hero on T-mobile. I'm I doing the right thing??? I've looked at quite a few vidz on YouTube regarding this phone and I'm pretty convinced so far.

I'm coming from an 16gb 2nd generation iPhone. I'm an avid die-hard iPhone fan and I think it's the hands down best gadget of the decade. However, I've not really been impressed with the iPhone 3GS and was expecting a lot more from Apple prior to it's release. Plus I want something different to what everyone else currently has.

I've been impressed with the amount of configuration you can do with the Hero. I read a quote yesterday that said something like: "The iPhone was created by designers & marketers whilst the HTC Hero was created by engineers". As I'm a bit of a techie I think the Hero's perfect for me. However, has anyone else made the move from an iPhone to a Hero and had any regrets??

Also what features did you lose from your iPhone once your contract ended (obviously apart from making calls). Will I still be able to use my currently installed apps/ipod etc... or does the phone turn into a brick?

Any answers would be appreciated.

Thanks

What do you mean can you use your App/Ipod? I've recently purchased a Hero and it's fantastic! The interface is smooth elegant + The iPhone doesn't have a glowing trackball when you receive a message. You will be able to sync music onto your Phone and listen to it. If you have some spare cash invest in a 8GB memory card or even a 16 if you have a bit more cash roaming around.

The market isn't as developed as much as iPhone's but it's defiantly getting there. Sure we have to wait for the more better application but there already a good few applications on the market that must be downloaded. The switch may be easy coming from an iPhone but in general case if you really are that die-hard maybe you should consider the 3GS.

Although I've never not received a text I did get some late once but that problem has decreased. I think it was because there a lot of signals around me and it could be interfering the phone. I always received them during College etc.

Thanks Wins.

I'm more or less going to get the Hero. I just wanted to know if the apps on my iPhone would become redundant once my contract in the UK with O2 ends.

I have some iPhone apps that are not on the Android market and still want the ability to be able to use them when required.

This includes: Touch OSC, Action Method, iThoughts, GuitarToolkit. FiRe, Wyse... Would be pretty pee'd off if I lost the ability to use those!!

Nevermind. I'll just jb the bugger if all else fails!

haha, yeah! jb is a viable option.
It should still work, when your contract ends it unlocks the phone right? So you could put it like a free paysim card into the iPhone and use the application if you get the idiotic "No Sim Card Inserted" screen (Not sure if there is one).

You'll absolutely love Hero, the iPhone interface were merely a setback :D
(Have any other questions, I'll be happy to answer it)

Technically, the hero is way better and has more potential.

I really, really love the iPhone, and have had the 2g and the 3g. As many have stated though; the marketin is getting better all the time, and as a techie it's a far more exciting platform to be a part of.

You'll miss the larger screen, itunes, and certain apps in the app store. Other than that, the Hero will make you smile all the time.

Root it and rom it though, it's a shame not to. ;)

Also, consider Orange as well as T-Mobile.....

which has better service T-Mobile or Orange.
With T-mobile i am getting internet with all the plans but not with orange.

does HTC hero like have a password lock to access the menu or to open the messages/sms?

It has pattern lock to wake up after sleep. It's the coolest unlock function by some distance. Search youtube for an example.

Take a look at the coverage maps in your area to see which is best.

Do you have wi-fi at home? If so, the 500mb that Orange provide will be more than enough for most folks.
T-mobile may have better packages (dunno what your needs are), but don't disregard the coverage. (and Orange wednesdays are worth thinking about too)

Will the Spint version being realeased in the US have an updated ROM?

I heard older versions were kind of sluggish

The samsung jet is a fisherprice toy.
That's a bit unfair. The Jet is an amazing device, but it's not a smartphone so its not even remotely in the same league as the hero in a lot of areas. BUT: the camera on the thing is miles better than the hero's pretty poor effort, and the screen is just unbelievable (best ive ever seen on *any* mobile device - movies actually look good on it).

If you want the best smartphone out there get a hero. If you want the best mediaphone out there get the jet.

Anybody know what the largest capacity microSD Hero will accept?

Phonescoop.com says up to 32GB. Right now the highest that is available in microSD is only 16GB and they run about $100. So if 32's do exist, they would cost more than what I paid for my Hero.

I can remember about 3 years ago, I bought a 512MB for $80 lol.

i ended up getting samsung jet.

Have to say I think you've made a very poor decision, the Jet is very limited and although has a good screen and camera, this isn't exactly the be-all-and-end-all of a device...

Android was calling, you missed your calling, your life will be eternally empty and devoid of completion until you get your next phone which WILL be based on Android.... :P

It's a no-brainer; go for the Hero. I am on 3 (purely 'cos the missus is on 3 and we get a lorra free calls/texts) and I have had no problemos with the Hero.
