Should I Return My Note 7 Replacement?

Chances are Samsung will perform an OTA update and lock out your phone in time. Similar to what they did originally to limit the battery charge to something like 60% until returned.

Why keep something that may well kill you or your family? It's just a phone, more will come out in the future no doubt. :rolleyes:
 
What sucks is the s7 edge is now an old phone. I do tmoblie jump and that phone is 6 months old. It hurts me from jumping sooner when the s8 comes out.
 
Well, reading elsewhere, seems Samsung has decided to just pull the plug and kill the Note 7 entirely, having to work with carriers to issue out alternate and replacement phones for everyone.

We can stick a fork in it, but I'm afraid of it exploding.

Though given how Samsung has basically done everything it can for the past five plus years to scare away the audience they built up on the rep of phones like the S 3 and done everything it could to be as iPhone-y as possible, I consider this (overdue) Karma. By listening to the hipster twits that only care about fitting a phone into their super-skinny jeans for fashion purposes, they dug themselves into this hole.

Until they start making the Galaxy phones the way they used to, where they were the definitive Android phone to get, and all the pro-tweaker elements they dumped, I have no interest of having another Samsung phone, ever again. I just cannot, and will not, do it.:mad:

Keep the thing in a strong fireproof metal box IMO.

One thing now, I'm pretty sure the N7 won't be legal to take on any public transport that has rules about carrying explosive and/or dangerous items, like aircraft, subways, trains and buses.

I initially didn't want to talk about it (like a "jinx" in sports), until official statements were made on what the plan was. That was until Samsung made a statement yesterday, and the only reason I knew about it was media outlets claiming that they had made an official statement advising to "power off" Note7 devices (regardless of which version). Reluctantly, I already started communicating with the seller I purchased from, hoping that I didn't have to return it in the morning. When I woke up this morning to media reports of Samsung discontinuing the Note7 permanently, that's when it set in that I have to return this thing.

Silver lining in this whole debacle?...I got 2 free microSD cards. Combine that with the 2 I purchased from ebay (which were obviously part of the free gift giveaway), I basically got 4 256gb cards for around $37.50 each. Not a bad deal. Even still, the time wasted throughout this whole thing has made it the least that I can worry about.

Seems Samsung at least got this bit right, unlike Amazon who have been fined several times for sending explosive items via air freight without the correct paperwork. :p
 
For those of you who love the Note 7 and REFUSE to turn it in:

  • Even if it charges cool and never overheats, it's still a fire risk. Note 7s have already caught fire with no warning signs.
  • Samsung may very well force all remaining Note 7s into Airplane Mode (or your carrier may lock out your device from the network). It would then be a paperweight.
  • Your Note 7 is no longer supported by Samsung. You will never get an update and there will be no warranty support.
  • You will not be able to sell it. You'll have to take a major loss on it.

Bottom line: PLEASE just turn it in. I hated to lose mine too... but I won't risk torching my house or car over a phone. There will be other wonderful flagships: it's just not worth keeping.

I'm of the opinion there hasn't be what I'd call a flawless flagship in years, ever since all the makers started dumping on their users and dropping power user friendly features from their high end and flagship offerings.

But I will agree on every other point made by @The_Chief . You'd have to be insane to keep the dynami--er, I mean a Note 7 around now.

I can't agree more. I'm glad I came to my senses yesterday and turned it in.
 
My Note 4 met it's demise about 3 weeks ago.. Went with a LG-Stylo 2 Plus.. then, returned that for the 6 Inch ZTE ZMax Pro with the $39.00 Promo over at MetroPCS.. It's a LOT of phone for the money..
Consider it.. :-)
 
Well since planning for the ultimate shutdown of my phone whenever its finally forced upon me. I'm thinking a used Note 5, allegedly perfect condition with little use (short ownership) ones are available for $250.-300ish. It's last years phone and just isn't worth retail value. I'm also considering the new LG V20, and the Huawei Mate 9 (will Verizon carry it?).

That said I think it's going to be a couple of months before it's over for the Note 7. Forget Samsung, people are going to be pissed off at their carriers for shutting them down. I'm now bracing for the worst.
 
My wife upgrade from a note 2 to a note 7, she was very happy with it. Than the recall came, so she got the replacement less than two weeks later she gets a text message and email to return the replacement device and pick another phone. I don't know about all carriers but from my wife was told all support for the note 7 will end this month. My wife was planning to hold on to her phone till the note 8 comes out in early 2017, however since we have kids and they some times play games, watch videos, movies on our phone's mine being a Nexus 6 we don't want them to use a phone that will potentially catch on fire. So I am not sure what she will get, it will be something she can her SD card in. I think the Samsung galaxy s7 edge plus is the top choice, maybe the S7
 
Has anyone thought of buying the Galaxy r2 something. Can't think of the exact name but it retails at around$168. I wonder if I bought that one, with the Samsng $100 credit, I'd only be out about $70 but would that count as an upgrade? Just to wait around for the 8 to come out? I don't have another phone to fall back on as I cashed my Note 4 in.

The $100 credit is for any Samsung smartphone, so it should work.

I'm just bummed because I already had the S7, and used my upgrade to get the Note 7. Now my upgrade eligibility is gone, and I'll be making payments on the same phone I used to have, since I'll probably get another s7.

If your with verizon they gave your upgrades back just check your account
