Root should i root... :-\

hi guys.
well it seems my campaign to get HTC to sort the sd card write issue has hit a wall :-( :-D
..so rooting is only option to fix it i think... plus might also get me better led control.

admit I'm a bit anxious about doing it as seems quite involved compared to s3.

..anyone done it recently and how easy did you find it?

....plus can't pull battery if it all goes wrong! :-\

Unfortunately the SD card issue is all Google. Rooting has many advantages though and it is extremely hard to truly brick a device. I would recommend trying something like ViperROM. Their roms are always very customizable and they are very active, releasing updates on a pretty regular basis.

I have used viper on many devices and have never been disappointed. Visit the Rooting section in this forum, or even the one on XDA. Plenty of good info and everyone is quick to help with any issues you may have

I havent tried Viper, but I have been using Skyfall. Skyfall is almost stock, but the bloatware is remove and there are some nice tweaks like the sd card is writeable and mobile hotspot bypasses the carrier locks.
The link to skyfall is for Verizon, but I think the developer has a version for other carriers.

Edit: You should also check out the Xposed app. It has some awesome hacks you can use to customize your phone. Check out the list of favorite apps for xposed here.
 
I've just signed up with Verizon's edge program. Anyone know if rooting a phone would violate terms of the agreement. This goes for jump and next programs as well. Thanks

#2 is ignored by far too many people. It turns my stomach when I see a post where someone is asking if they bricked their phone if their carrier will know...Always take responsibility, you know the risks!
 
My concern isn't breaking the phone by rooting. I've rooted every phone I've owned. Its just the advice I've seen is not to revert back to s-on with the m8 My concern is that Verizon may claim s-off as being a tampered phone.

If I were going to return a phone, and I had the option to return to s-on, I would do it. That's just my preference.
 
Although there were some m8s that were shipped already s off. My friends m8 is an example and plus I doubt any of the Verizon reps would even be able to tell as long as you ruu back to stock and unroot or just keep root and hide super su and flash the stock bootloader. Problem solved
 
I would not turn a vzw phone s on. Trust me,its a really,really,really BAD idea. You may end up locked into bootloader with a security warning that you can not recover from with the inability to unlock via htcdev,and no official signed ruus to run.

Mustang had the best advice. Stay s off,change bootloader to locked and return kernel, rom, and recovery to stock.
