i have been running 4.0.0.9 since the first root and rom i installed should i update and what is there in the difference in the newer versions

I have the same question. I am running 5.5.0.4 and everybody migrated to 6.0.1.5 b-raedon. Does the recovery helps the MT runs better? and flashing the recovery upgrade erase anything? sorry, newbie questions.

TIA,

Ok, basically just like with any software, there are going to be bugs. Not only bugs from the Triumph dev working on it but Koush is always updating the CWM code. The most stable one that I have found is 5.0.2.7. After doing so much troubleshooting for my ROMs I have narrowed a few problems down to a few recoveries.

I suggest either CWM v5.0.2.7 or the new v6.0.?.? that b_randon is working on. I keep 5.0.2.7 on my good phone and haven't had any issues with 6.0.?.? from b_randon on my dev phone.

Swapping recoveries will not erase or change anything but the recovery. The benefit of switching recoveries is that you will have less issues switching ROMs, cause a few have bugs with wiping data, which can make your experience with the ROM you are installing not so good. There are also some nandroid issues with a few of them. I've heard of recoveries not wiping cache.

So basically it should have no impact on day to day functions, but because it is the foundation, as in it is what prepares your phone and installs the ROM, it can affect the the way the ROM runs day to day.

Hope this helps.

When I flash a ROM by overwriting, for example when CM9 updates, I don't wipe anything. The experience I've had is that all my Google Apps are lost in the process. The simple fix is that I have to flash GApps as well as the ROM, so it's no big deal. But I've had other phones where this is not an issue, and my google apps and their data is maintained. I'm wondering, is this a CWM thing?

Not related to CWM, it has to do with google licensing stuff and not allowing it on developer ROMS (I think).
