Root Should I wipe?

Now that I have your attention with the title, I'm curious about something...

It always seems that my DX runs best immediately after installing a new ROM. Everything is freshly installed and there's not a lot of "stuff" on the phone.

With that in mind, is it beneficial to do a factory reset on the phone say every few weeks or once a month to keep it fast and smooth?

I'm having absolutely no problems with my current setup (Apex 2.0 RC4 w/ICS) and have no desire to change it. Does a phone "slow down" as you use it? Would a factory reset and wipe of all data help it maintain it's speed and stability?

Thanks in advance.

if you have a data caching hog app then yeah over time it will slow down a little. But something as drastic as a wipe shouldn't be needed. My DX always got slow after being on a Rom for a while, but i'm certain it was an app or two i had on there that was just caching everything in sight. I never really worried too much about it.

Is there a way to identify an excessive data caching app? Does a "wipe cache" in CWR clear all cache for all apps?
