Should my sister get this phone?

My sister and brother in law have 5 year old dumb phones on verizon. They're wanting to go Android and wanted my opinion on this phone, but I am on AT&T and have the Samsung Captivate and have had no experience with HTC. They are both non-geeky people so rooting or installing a custom rom would be out of the question. What's the verdict on this phone for a non tech savvy person? Is there a better option, or is this a pretty good choice?

It's a grand phone and very easy to operate, even for the novice. It's really up to her if she wants to fork out the extra $30/month for the data package. Better make a decision before July 7th though or she will be stuck with a tiered data plan.

This phone is known for being one of the most refined and solid Android phones out right now. There aren't any major issues with it, it has great specs (while not being a BEAST per se), and is the best 3G phone VZW has to offer right now.

I was exaggertaing a tad, but more than likely, a person owning a smartphone would surpass 2gb a few times during the course of the 2-year agreement, wouldn't you say?

i always thought that but the only times i've done it is when i had my droid pro and i used it as wifi hotspot. and i would say i use my phone quite a bit.

This is probably the best all around phone for verizon right now. Its fast, slim, takes good pictures and has great battery life compared to phones out today.

As far as the 2GB data plan, the biggest factor is probably how much use it gets on 3G as opposed to how much use it gets when connected to wifi. IIRC, wifi use doesn't count against the data plan.

A user has to be a tiny bit tech savvy to know that it's best to use wifi when a reliable, secure connection is available. I am about to activate one of my droids on my sister's account, just so that she can get in on unlimited data before July 7. She wants an IPhone, but isn't eligible for an upgrade until next April. I can' see her bothering to configure the phone for wifi at home, work, etc, since she will be able to access the internet and email without it via 3g. I bet there are lots of smartphone users who don't even understand the difference between 3g and wifi....it's all "the internet" to many.
