I am looking for the Developer Options in the Settings Menu. I need this so I can switch on USB error detection to show my tablet on my PC (with Droid@Tablet / ADB from SDK).

On my phone the Developer Option menu is visible in the Settings menu -screen projection works great.
I now run a Samsung Nexus 10 w Android 4.3 and the Developer menu is not there.

Checked some forums - found the advice to go to the Device Info Menu and rapid-tap 7-8 times on the Build nr to pop up the Developer menu. However THIS does not work does not work on my device.

Any tips to show either the Developer menu OR to switch on USB error detection?

Yeah, I do think that if you go to Settings -> About phone and tap the Build number about 7 or 8 times, that should enable the Developer options to now show up above the About phone option in the main Settings menu.

Failing that, you could download and install my Android Root Toolkit app (free in the Market--check my signature for a link, too). When you install it, hit Agree (whether your rooted or not), press Continue on the change log display, go to the Menu, select Preferences / Settings, select Options Select (first option), scroll down to the bottom and check the "Developer Options Menu" enty's checkbox, press the back button until you get to the main screen, and then touch the screen and scroll to the Developer Options Menu entry that should now appear (there will also now be a "Developer Options Menu" entry when you hit the menu button.

There's probably an easier way or other app, but I know the above should work for you (that's about the only option in my Android Root Toolkit app that does not require root, though).

If you are rooted, I'm pretty sure you could enter a "setprop" command that can enable USB debugging, but I'd have to dig around for the info about that (sign-up and post back here if you need that or PM me).

Best of luck and let me know if you have any questions!

:)

Thanks, you seem quite knowledgeable. Unfortunately this does not work on my device - I get 7 options in your ART app and preferences is not one of them.
I am not rooted -- should I be? Or is 4.3 just to new and quirky?
Other options, perhaps other ways to cast my Android screen to PC?

tpmsbv,

Hey, thanks for signing-up with us! :)

Do you have a menu button or do you see the three vertical dots (ellipses)? If you press that, you should see the menu options which should include the Preferences / Settings function I spoke of above.

You shouldn't need root to do what I described above...lemme know if that works for you--I still have something else I could do for you.

Thanks!

tpmsbv,

Failing the above, try downloading and installing this app I just built for you:

View attachment DevOptions.apk

It's a dead-simple app (there's not even a UI for it ;) :p): you just launch it and it will launch the Developer Options settings menu for you (assuming your device is setup to allow it).

Check it out and let me know.

Cheers!

Thx Not So Scary,

Found the menu in yr ART app, unfortunately it says Developer Options not available for this User (4.3 supports multiple Accounts as you know).
Switched to the Owner user - there it works.

So... although not the most elegant solution I can do my screen cast from a borrowed account - which is good enough for now.
Previous versions probably didn't have the prob as they didn't have the accounts

The app you wrote I cannot open on my tablet - same prob I guess.

However.. the main thing is: you mae it work. THANKS a million

You are most welcome, tpmsbv :).

Hmm, that's weird about the non-owner account not being able to invoke that function--I admittedly haven't played around with a second user on my devices to see what differences there might be, but I'll be sure to in the future and re-visit this issue.

Cheers and best of luck!

:)
