Help Show Notifications resetting

Anybody else having a problem with this? I go into Application Manager, and then laboriously, for all of the apps that I have and/or downloaded, I select it, and uncheck the "Show Notifications" box, for all but necessary apps. I have it so I'm only notified by email, messaging, etc... Don't want to know that I can get xyz for only $abc dollars if I act now on a particular app...

But then, a few days later, I still get these notifications. So I check my Application Manager, and many of them has reset the checkbox. So, I go through the list and uncheck everything again. Not all the apps, but many of them. So I think I'm okay, but nope, it happens again...

Repeat several more times. Eventually, I got frustrated, and thinking that this reset when the apps went through an update process, I opened the Play Store to turn off Auto Updates. So, I think I'm good until I decide to update my apps in bulk (perhaps once a month or so). BUT a few days later, I am getting notifications again, so I look, and sure enough, the box is checked off again! What is going on? Am I missing a step here?

Any help would be appreciated. My sanity would be grateful.

It also sounds like you are getting push ads to your notification bar too. I use an app called Addon Detector - Play Store and by using this I can identify and remove any apps that send me push ads. I first started using it a couple of years back on my SGS2 and have installed it on every phone i've owned since then for those situations where a rogue app thinks it's clever to send unwanted advertising to your notification bar.

I figured out a part of it... Some, but not all, apps have the checkmarks restored after I restart the phone. As an example, I previously unchecked 100 Floors and Angry Birds (my two first apps that I have control over), and the check marks came back. I unchecked them again just now, and restarted the phone, and 100 Floors came back, but not Angry Birds. My guess is that, in a few days, Angry Birds will come back too... Same with Pandora, Netflix, Candy Crush, etc... I mean, I really don't want to get push notifications with Candy Crush, but why can't I just keep the darn thing turned off! Is nobody else having this problem?

probably not the answer you're looking for here, but if your phone is rooted you can stop the pieces of those programs from running at startup and not get the pesky notifications. IE, Deer Hunter 2014 always has these popups that say when you can hunt and when they have specials, I stopped all 6 (yes 6) parts of this program from running at startup and I don't get the notifications anymore.

I use Android Tuner Pro to do it but there are several different apps that will do it. I believe the Super Tuner app from the same dev will do it too and it's free. I've disabled several apps from running all the time after startup. You wouldn't believe the crap some of these companies think should be running all the time on your phones...

Edit. You might even be able to do it without root. You'll just have to try it and see.
