Help sideload an application

Hi forum.

I've searched high and low regarding this, but to no avail. I'm trying to sideload an application that I have (.apk file), but my Linux machine is not able to recognize my device.

Here's the current situation.
Using a Linux CentOS 6.2
Trying to sideload an apk that I have
Unzipped eclipse EE helios to ../username/Public
Installed ADT plugin
Unzipped sdk to ../username/Public
Plugged in the usb to connect from my kindle fire to my Linux box
On Kindle's settings->device-> allow installation of application from unknown source is on
On kindle prompt: you can now transfer files from your computer to kindle
On linux: 'adb device'
"List of device attached."

And that is all.

I'm going crazy here to try to sideload this thing. Any ideas?

As long as you check the "install applications from unknown sources" box in settings/devices, you can download/ the apks right from the internet. Freewarelovers.com is my preferred source of apks but other sites like slideme should work fine too. As far as connecting it to the computer, have you tried running windows in virtualbox? Microsoft put out the Windows 8 consumer preview for free, you could try that. Hope this helps.

Are you sure that you went through the whole process of installing the correct Google USB drives? Also, does it show that your kindle is connected when you go to your Device Manager? If it shows that your device is connected but has the exclamation point next to it just reinstall the drivers and then adb the device again after installation. it should work from there. If not send me a PM and I'll work through it with you :)
