signal strength

I live in an area with not so hot coverage and was wondering if -70dbm is a stronger signal than -100dbm.

I typically get between -76dbm to -90 dbm..

Also I have broadband Internet and heard about a cell phone signal extender that uses broadband. Is that just for voice or both voice and 3G/1X data?

Thanks in advance!!

The higher the number, the worse the signal, so -100 is worse than -70. Think of it as points taken away from your signal. If you're down 100, you'd rather be down 70. Someone else will have to help with the rest of your questions.

Steve is right but to go a little deeper the signal strength is logarithmic meaning the difference between -70 and -90 is pretty big.

I think the extender is for both.

If you have broadband, why not just use wifi for data?

hmm did not know you could use WiFi for Data on a cell phone. Pretty nice..

Is that all there is to it.. just connect to my router via WiFi and start using the Andriod Market and such?

Please let me know..

Thanks for all the replies..

I had to switch from Epic4G to Inc2 because of a signal problem. Both my home and workplace are somewhat fringe. Signal was -101 to -106dB. Now with Inc2 it is -80 to -90 perfectly usable. Let me add that dB is deciBel and 10dB is a factor of 10. Actually a factor of 20 in power. So 20dB is a factor of 100 in signal and 10,000 in power.
