Help Silence incoming notifications

I can't silence incoming notifications for e-mail or texts. My ringtone for a text will go off, but I can't stop it from playing by pressing the side buttons or power button like most every cellphone out there. I have to scramble to unlock my phone, then pull down the top window bar to silence it.

Does anyone know what to do?

No..
I do not want to go into my menu settings to permanently disable notification sounds.
I do not want to put my phone in silent mode or airplane mode or whatever mode.
I do not want a shorter, quieter ringtone.
I do not want to change the volume on my phone.

If the phone is in my pocket, and it begins to play an incoming notification ringtone at an inopportune time, I want to be able to quickly silence it ------ like the universal cellphone standard of tapping the side volume or power buttons.

Ideas?

I don't know if it is cause I am on Froyo or not, but if I hit the volume down button once while it is ringing, than it goes silent for me.

My firmware on my phone reads "2.1-update1".

I've been doing some research on Froyo after your post, and do you mean your firmware is the 2.2 update that has been pushed back (yet a leaked beta version is floating around)? So hopefully the 2.2 update will fix this 'silence incoming notifications' problem?

Hmm, i am able to do that but i use the default ringtones and sounds. Are you using songs/sounds you made/downloaded?

When I made the thread I was using a custom 10sec. mp3 ringtone I had created, and I couldn't stop the notification alert.

I tried a default notification ringtone after reading your post, and I still couldn't stop the alert by pressing up/down on the volume buttons nor the power button.

I'm not sure what the deal is, but I think I'm SOL. I contacted a Samsung representative, and he said that feature isn't available. So, um, yeah.

I am in the same boat. I like to have my song/ringer play, but if I walk into a quiet place and need to silence it quickly I have been having to do the same thing. (unlock phone> pull down slider) I will try pressing and holding the volume buttons later when I get off. Hopefully it will work for me as the 2 other people said it works for them?!

Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, there is no configurable option to quickly shut off the tone if you incoming e-mails. You really have to power on the screen and open the message to silent it.


All Samsung products are manufactured to the specifications of the service provider for whom they are produced.
