Root Silent mode frustrations

Had anyone addressed the "silent mode" issue, either in a rom, or by an app? When you put the phone to silent before me all sound would cease- rings, alarms, notifications, now only the ring is silent, but the alarm and notifications sound off at the worst possible times!

Its a pain to go to settings and turn them all off, but that's all it seems that works for now. Has anyone come up with a better solution?
I have tasker- maybe a way to do it there?

I recommend AudioManager. I have the Pro version. Lets you set up profiles and create widgets for each profile. Plus the Pro lets you skin the main widget.

I believe the volume rocker only makes the "ringer" silent .... "sound off" from the lock screen makes the "phone" silent.

I noticed Ultimate Droid fixes it with the side buttons.
