Silly design? Charging port on "bottom"

Hey gang, is it just me, or is the charging port location silly on the Photon? I mean, if you want to use the alarm clock when you sleep...which kind of seems like a given, then wouldn't you also want to charge your phone while you're sleeping? How silly is that? You can't charge your phone if you want to use the kickstand.. :confused:

Whoops!! Ok ok ok...rtfm...I know. Sorry. Just flip the phone so the usb charger is on the top.. Doh!!

I'm not a big fan of the charging port location because it makes it difficult to talk while the phone in plugged in and charging while in my truck. Everyone makes such short chords these days.
 
So far, I've owned devices with charging ports on every side. My opinion: there's NO convenient place to put a charging port. The only truly convenient charging mechanism I've run across is the inductive charging Touchstone that I used with my Pre, but even that had the limitation of charging a bit slower.
 
Actually, I think the best place is still the bottom-center... my HTC tablet has the port bottom-center, and I can use it with most stands, as they all have holes in the right place.

It gets really awkward in the car, with the audio cord coming out the top and the power cord going in the side. Why don't more companies put the charging port and audio port in the bottom, like with the iPod Touch, so you can dock the thing in portrait mode and not have wires going every which way?

That's why the Motorola dock was designed SO great! The USB actually connects to the back of the holder and when you connect the USB to the charger, there's an AUX-in connector (where the charger base is). That way, only 1 wire extends from the holder to the charger. Works flawlessly and keeps multiple cables out of the way.

Only thing I wish they would've done with the Car Dock is wired it like the HTC Car Dock, where the USB connector plugs in at the base of the holder.
 
but if you hold it in your right hand its not as awkward, because its pointed down....

left hand ya cuz it comes out top side....

the epics was just stupid having it come out the top though....
 
I thought the charge port location was bad when I first checked the phone out, but it makes perfect sense when you consider the accessories. I still think on the bottom (when in portrait mode) is best, like the Evo, but at least it's not on the top as floorguy mentioned.
