Help Silver Screen of Death!! HELP!!

Hi all,

So just landed in South Africa to see family for a week and turned my phone on for the first time since London Heathrow. All I can see is what looks like "white noise" on the screen of my Vodafone SII.

Whilst on the plane the battery was out of the phone so no power at all and also the phone was safe in my hand luggage and not being thrown around in the cargo hold below.

I have attempted 5 reboots which I get the sound on boot up but only the silver white noise. There is no pixelation on the screen so doesn't look like its taken a whack of any sort.

Has anyone else had this weird thing happen to them?

What steps can I take to get it working? Or do I wait to get repaired back home. Would be a nightmare without my phone for 2 weeks though!!

Cheers all.

can u boot into recovery mode? press n hold vol up+home+power.. u could try a factory reset.. that'd mean losing all ur data, but its better than nothing, i guess. not sure how helpful its gonna be either

i assume u took the battery out, left it out for a couple of min, put it back and tried again? if not, u could try that first

I have left the battery out for 3hrs now and still nothing.

When I try the recovery mode I still get the silver screen. I can't see anything I am doing so not sure how many presses to scroll down to wipe the phone. But I am sure this wont solve the problem.

Its like the graphics chip or something has totally fried but I have no idea how.

Damn thing was working 18hrs ago!!

Sorry its taken so long to reply. Only landed late last night.

So got onto Vodafone first thing this morning regarding the problem. They said to go to the local store.

Just came back with a new SII but this time in white (no stock).. hmmm!!

Anyway the lady on the phone asked me to tell the guy in the shop to run a software upgrade on the phone and if that does not fix the phone to replace it.

The chap said they should of contacted him directly to save time as they dont do software updates in that store and can only replace.

Does anyone know what they are doing anymore!?!

Anyway I got a new replacement and now in the process of loading all my stuff back on again.

Is it worth rooting it while I'm at this stage??? Never tried before so not sure what to expect.

Cheers all.
