Help SIM Card Not Detected Error

Ocassionally, and there doesn't seem to be any common circumstances for it, my DHD will display:

Unable to detect your SIM card. Shutdown or Restart?

I've tried reseating the card and it doesn't seem to make any difference. On average I'd say it happens about once every two days, but it can be longer. A reboot clears the issue each time.

Anyone else having this issue?

[PS : Thanks for moving this post to the right forum!]

Best case scenario you got a bad sim card and you just need to take it in to get replaced. If replacing it doesn't work then there must be something wrong with your handset. I have had my dhd for 5 days now and on day two i had to get the sim card replaced.

I've tried it with another SIM and I'm getting the same thing, so I'm guessing it is the handset.

As a test, I've used a little tape to fix the SIM card in position, as I'm wondering if it's tiny movement (eg; when i put my phone down on a desk) that's causing the problem. I had this many years ago with a SE phone.

I'm experiencing the same error and it has been like that for a while. I think my phone needs to go for repair. I tried to nail down the reason and I am almost sure that it has to do with the phone being cooled down. Every time it happens to me the aluminum body of the phone is cold. I noted that as it happened frequently in my car where I have an active holder installed in front of the ventilation inlet. When the car is warm there is no problem, but then if I turn on the a/c and cool down the phone it fails. Also I tried to put it into a plasticbag and put it in the freezer for 10 min and it failed. Having the phone exposed to cold weather also does the job. I will try to swap sim card with my girlfriend and see if I can get it to fail on her sim card as well.

As an update, I've not had any problems whatsoever since I taped the SIM into position. Looking at the SIM itself, it was a little scuffed around the cut-off corner so it may have been moving slightly and losing the connection.

I haven't noticed a problem when the phone cools down, but I'll keep an eye on it - I put the phone in a cradle near an air vent in the car as well, so it may be a contributing factor.

A full week on, and there's not been one problem. Have been taking the DHD with me on a run, in the car, etc. and its not crashed at all with the error.

Taping it down seems to have done the trick.
