Sim card swap

Ok, I just bought an Atrix 2, an upgrade from my iphone 3gs. I am extremely happy with the atrix 2, and now want to sell the iphone. Problem is is that I was stupid and reset the iPhone for factory settings in order to sell it to the buyer, and the buyer wants to see a serial number, which can not be accessed without activation (iphones have no serial on the back). The iphone is now stuck on a screen requiring a sim card to activate. Can I use my Atrix sim, which is the same that I used in the iPhone, just so I can activate it, and then take it out. If I do this, will my plan be affected, or will it be ok. I am just super concerned about huge charges on my plan if I simply swap the Sim Cards.

Thanks
Sincerely,
Super satisfied Android user

It shouldnt cause any problems, assuming that the SIM will work in the iphone - i.e. the iphone isnt locked to a different network.

I have a question on the heels of this topic.

I have an iphone 3GS now, will be switching to Verizon and getting a droid (Rezound vs RAZR!) in January. At that point, I will sell my 3GS on craigslist or Ebay. Before I do this: factory reset the iphone, pull the sim card out... what's the smartest way to backup pictures, contacts, etc? Will the "cloud" help at all? Going from iphone => droid, as well as ATT=> Verizon, I'm wanting to make sure I do this correctly and also not lose any media in the process.

I understand that when I sell it to Joe Schmoe on Ebay, he should expect my 3GS to be factory reset and come without a sim card, it's his problem not mine at that point. But the OP had the situation where they were asking for the serial # and that gave me pause.

Any input would be most helpful.

I wouldn't bother with iCloud since that's largely inaccessible to Android. Just copy all your contacts and pictures to your PC. I think you should be able to re-download purchased music through iTunes.
