So I just got my DHD and I noticed the phone switches off if I pull the SIM card out. I frequently switch between SIM cards and I was wondering what can I do to replace the SIM card without turning the phone off?

You can try putting the phone into Aeroplane mode before removing the cover, but I doubt it'll work.
It seems to turn itself off when the two pins on the cover get disconnected. A solution might be to solder a bit of wire from the phone contacts to the cover contacts, to make these connections permanent, BUT this is not something I'd ever think about doing
