SIM cover - anyone else break it yet?

I managed to fold my SIM / MicroSD cover in half when removing it, and cracked it in the process. Of course, AT&T doesn't have replacement parts, but they gave me a number to call at HTC. The number is 888-716-3594. I called the number and they very nicely told me that they don't have any, the part is out of stock and they have no idea when the part will be arriving. They were very sorry, but they could not put one on backorder for me. I should keep calling back until the part is in stock, at which time they would ship me one free of charge.

Has anyone found an alternate source for these?

Nope .... it's only you :D

mine broke at the store when I was getting my phone. Returned that one and got a new phone. When I need to take the cover off again, it will be done VERY carefully!
Thanks for the phone number - I'll be using it.

Don't feel to bad... it happened to me also. It took me a second to take off the battery cover but the sim was a b!t%&... I followed the instructions but couldn't do it. I felt like i was putting to much pressure on the screen. I ended up doing it the way you did and of course you know the result. I went back to Atnt. They were cool about it. they were surprised that was the problem. they expected it to be the battery cover. The Mgr. took my name and said he would call me as soon as a return came in and swap it out for me. But a minute later after telling me that he just decided to do the exchange for me. That made my day. I had prefered the exchange anyway due to the fact the camera was also showing metal around the edge so it was a win win for me. Great Customer Service. I would go back to Atnt if you bought it there and ask them to replace the cover for you when they get a return on the Inpire. Leave them your number.

when i called HTC to get another battery door last thursday, i think, and told them about my sim/sd card door not being flush with the phone the guy said they will be offering replacements for that piece in 1-2 weeks so i should call back then cause the part was on order but they just needed to get the shipment in before they can offer it to customers.

HTC now has the SIM card covers in stock. I ordered mine Saturday the 19th. They would only ship me one, tho. They asked for the serial number of the phone and my address to send the cover to.

FYI.

I haven't broken anything yet, but I don't mess with that stuff more than I have to. I opened each cover one time, once to put in the sim, and the battery. That's it. They haven't been opened since, and I don't plan on needing to open them anytime soon LOL.

Yep. Mine folded in half and broke, as I posted in another thread. I will call HTC for a replacement.

Broke it yesterday. OUCH. that's VERY THIN PLASTIC.

It fit back on, but has a hairline crack. Might take it back for an exchange today since I'm in my 30 day return period.

Yes. mine fit back on with a hairline crack as well. I just received the phone on Friday, but there is no need to return it. I just called the HTC number above and they acknowledged that they have received so many calls about this issue. They are sending me a replacement via FEDEX. You may want to do the same rather than return it and have to start from scratch with a new phone.

I wouldn't start from scratch with a new phone.

i'd just request they(BestBuy) give me a new cover off a NEW phone. i'm ok with the phone itself.

they are aware of the issues too. I asked before I bought it.

Then, they can send the NEW phone with the BROKEN cover.

Saves alot of time instead of calling att and switching esn's.

2 Questions... Have they said that the design is changed in any way to make it a better fit or easier to remove? Mine is a little loose, in that I can feel it move a little if I press on the bottom of the phone a bit. And are they requiring you to send in the old cover? Thanks in advance.

I specifically asked if the replacement SIM cover will be stronger than the original, and I was told that the cover they are shipping me is an exact replacement for the one that came with the phone originally.

My concern was/is that the antenna is in this cover, and if it doesn't fit properly, a loose/arched/split cover may affect RF performance.

No mention was made of returning the old cracked cover. I have not received the replacement yet, so I can't say if there are instructions included with the replacement on what to do with the broken cover. I can't imagine HTC needing to see untold numbers of broken SIM card covers. Pretty sure they know what they look like.
