Root Simpleroot OTA 1.47.651.1 Edition

I rooted through the manual method. Try asking over at xda?

If you aren't a member over there, it's well worth it. They are pretty much the main source for where I find my rooting info, ROMs, troubleshooting, etc.

tried the manual method already, put it back to stock as my 4g stopped working and phone was just overall acting funny, now i want to try this method. already a member over there ill trying posting over there.

maybe it was the rom, searching for roms is a JOKE. anyone know which roms work the best with the new OTA rooted that has working 4g, wifi, better battery life etc?

I rooted, installed Unrevoked, then installed ROM Manager. ROM Manager downloaded Fresh 0.5.3 for me and it's able to flash both Clockwork and Amon RA recoveries. There are a couple other ROMs you can get with the free ROM Manager, like older releases of Damage Control or Buggy Beast.

does fresh 0.5.3 offer 4g out of the box or do i need to do that crazy mac hacking crap like with damagecontrol? reason why im asking is ive already done searching on this but there are soooo many different threads with soooo many different answers its kinda of ridiculous. i just want one place where i can read about the most updated roms for evo and what they contain or not contain.

it worked pretty much out of the box for me.

I downgraded, flashed Fresh, and then updated with the newest radios.

rooted using simple root, flashed with fresh 0.5.3 then flashed the 45fps JIT working great at 1037ghz. can someone tell me do i need to leave the pc36.zip everytime i want to flash a new rom im going to have to wait for it to run through its process before i can get to the recovery method.

Nope delete it. PC36IMG.zip is just to write over the recovery and HBOOT and ROM that one time.

If you want to reboot into recovery either:
1) use 'adb reboot recovery'
2) Reboot into recovery from ROM Manager
3) Hold volume down + power till HBOOT comes up and select Recovery

That root method just takes you back to older release
I want the newest OTA with the new radio and wifi
this simple root wont achieve that (not automatically at least)

What the best route to root with the latest 1.47 applied and then just get root?

As of right now there isn't a new unrevoked or partial root, which is what it sounds like you're looking for. So either root by flashing a ROM or stick with what you have now.

Ok... rooting noob here, but I've been doing some research and think I have the process figured out (in theory anyway). I'm looking forward to trying this and flashing Fresh 5.3 when I"m done.

See if I got this right: I can do Simpleroot to get back to a old, rooted version of the software with NAND access, flash a custom ROM (no rooted stock 1.47 etc ROM available) and then update my radios.

What I'm confused about is ... if, when and how should I perform any backups? I hear about Titanium backup, but doesn't that require root? If I don't backup then I lose all my data (music, emails, pics, etc). I lose setting and such with the data wipe anyway, right? So, if I have my SD card copied to my PC, why do I need to backup? Is there any other info that I lose that I can't get back from my SD file on my PC?

I guess I'm just a little mixed up about the order of this process.

i just did a nandroid backup, that way if my rom goes south or i screw something up i can restore on the go. same thing i did with my nexus when i had it.

Yes, Charge only...debugged checked...rebooted PC & Evo.....

However, even though I'm in "Charge only" I can still access from "my computer" which makes me wonder if that's the problem....wouldnt it not come up if it's in charge only?

you shouldnt be able to access your phones sd card through your pc if your in charge only.
