Root Simplest possible root

I'm buying a Note this week and want to root it straight out of the box. But this is purely so that I can remove bloatware and run the odd root-only app. That's all. I don't want to change the ROM or do anything else. Can anyone recommend a tutorial for the simplest possible, root-access-only, root? Thanks.

Just copy the downloaded files to your internal storage ("phone" in windows when connected by MTP) and do the steps as mentioned.

Don't copy to external SD Card, doesn't work for me, don't know why.

Many thanks for that. In fact I'd already found those instructions via another ro(u)te (see what I did there?!), and my Note is now successfully rooted. But I'm very grateful for the post.

Yup, same here, worked a treat, now running rooted 4.0.4.

Never rooted before, did it mainly for GMD GestureControl. Cost

I've never rooted before either, and did it primarily to get rid of bloatware and to run the odd root-only app.
